Default Hacking the Vine Multigen?

Hey!

I was wondering if anybody has tried pulling apart a multigen and getting it to crossfade? I've noticed that if you press the fade button halfway through a fade, then it will start fading back from the position of fade that it is in when you press the button (I think that makes sense!). I'm guessing that you could just pulse (well, short) the fade switch continually to get it to stay halfway faded, or to crossfade, just provide it with abit of time delays between pairs of pulses. Would be a bit dodgy, but they are only 20 squid.

20 quid? where?

also ive chatted with ppl about doing a similar thing with the vine corioscan it has rs232 control so theoretically you could build a little control box that would let you control its fade/key functions...
any takers from the tinkerers out there?

the vinegen pro used to be available with an external crossfader - if enough owners wanted one i'm sure that vine could make an external fader for rs232 control of the more recent models

if were really lucky the command codes for the vinegen pro and the coriogen might be the same

email support@vinemicros.com and get them to replace it - they have allways been very helpfull with stuff like this in the past

or you can download software to allow you to control the vinegen via rs232 http://www.vinemicros.com/support/download/dsmg130.zip

I got my multigen off ebay a couple of months ago for 20 quid. They crop up now and again. How much did you get your vinegen 2 for? I think i saw one go for about 200 on ebay the other week. Strikes me as alot of effort getting it to fade when u could spend another 80 pounds or so and get a proper video mixer.

i dont know about the older vine models, but the "overlay" function on the coriogen is way sweeter keying than ive seen on any mixer, plus a little rs232 x fader and a coriogen will fit in yr pockets if yr on a commando vj tip.

Reply from Vine Micros RE: RS232 external crossfader
Yes we did make the VineGen Pro genlock adaptor with an external
cross fader, but this is a product that is no longer made or
available.

We never introduced an external cross fader for our newer CORIOgen
Eclipse because we felt that there really was not the need for it as
you can fade using the remote control or via RS232 and can adjust not
only the key level but also the keyer, which changes the units
built-in overlay circuit, to give different levels of softness and
hardness to the computer's image when in Overlay mode, thus you can
create the same effects as if you were using an external cross fader
- refer to pages 22,23 of maunal for full details of this:

http://www.vinemicros.com/support/manuals/cge2-2.pdf

I will log your suggestion for future reference.

If I can be of any further assistance then please do not hesitate to
contact me.

So looks like they can't see the point of an external fader - prehaps someone else knows of someone who can build such a thing???
