still looking for the right (perfect?) software on my mac powerbook.
downloaded arkaoss and vdmx. but cannot make a choice. all i want is some backup from (experienced) mac-users please! i'd like to use something like resolume for mac. arkoass is pretty nice but hard to get into the next patch, while performing. also it supports only 1 layer at the time. further the quality of the picture is important for me. what about software and firewire support? imagine is interesting but complex. thnx 4 all support.[list] |

u can define the maximum number of multiple layers in the preferences and u have to adjust the clip properties for transperency. |

Of the three softs you mention, I think Image/ine has the best flexibility and depth. I have only tried Arkaos and VDMX for short periods but both felt too limiting. But that's just my preference for the stuff I do.
If Image/ine's interface doesn't suit you, I suggest looking at Keystroke www.keyworx.org. It has the same rendering engine as Image/ine but a different interface, some better tools for handling multiple media files, and the ability to do up to 7 layers instead of Image/ine's 3. Plus it's free to beta testers and their HQ is in Amsterdam. I hear good things about Onadime, there's a big review posted on this site. There really is no "perfect" software out there. All of them take different approaches and have strengths and weaknesses. If you have a particular style in mind, go with the program that seems to complement it best. Good luck, Daniel |

Take a look at Isadora:
http://www.troikatronix.com/isadora.html You've got a lot of possibilities like Image/In, but more user friendly. It still in Beta but really stable on OS X. |

www.vidvox.net for pro mac vj apps imho.
vdmx2 gave me the decks, monitors and effects to rock the vj from tibook alone. prophet is pretty much exclusively used by timing-critical AV jammers on the mac. i'm testing vdmx3 which is nearly out now, and it is a revolution. the same principle as v2, but now hardwires your tibook into thinking its got some MX50 chips inside... |

Maybe it is only me that sees the irony of going to a forum for VJ's and going to the Software subforums and entitling a new thread as 'vj-software'

...esp as its not about vj-software per se, but specifically for powerbooks. hey, i could edit the thread title, but then where would be the fun for you...
