Hey, I had my first gig the other night and it was a blast. I have an epson EX51 and it was very bright for the venue and performed quite well. I had one glaring issue though...I had to shoot the projector down the room at an odd angle because of the close proximity of the preferred wall. So, I have been looking at short throw projectors but I really don't need something that shoots an 8' screen from 3'. I can drop around 1-3k. Any suggestions or tips? I was looking at this from another thread (its liquid cooled which is nice since I live in New Mexico HOT!)

Renting isn't really an option around here as far as I know until I start attending the local university so testing is a hard option as well :/

I have 4 of those machines, very good, and very reliable.
But be aware that the 0.8 wide angle lenses usually cost about $800 on Ebay, (unreserved auction) if you can find one... Also the machine is pretty heavy, so a quick rig to an already existing structure isn't as easy as a little office type projector. Still very worth the the money, and great projector. |

Thanks for the response. I think I might spring for that model. I've read it's pretty easy to switch out the lenses.

oh, the lens is just a button and twist/pull it's out. Easy.
Just the cost of the lens is to be considered. I have the 1.8-2.5:1 that are standard for that machine (the one you linked to has that lens) and I also have 3x of the 0.8:1 wide angle lenses. I bought all my lenses used, on Ebay, and they are pretty expensive even used! If you're really going to invest in these machines, consider rmaking a VJ kung-fu style clamp for it. they work well. |

oh, and don't forget to get a good road case!
cause once you've got that machine with a wide angle lens, people are going to want to use it. I rent mine out all the time, the local AV company's actually list these machines at $500/day! i don't know who in there right mind would actually pay that much... I usually charge about $350/day (retail) Less for my VJ buddy's... If you use Pelicans, I've got the 1610's the projector just fits in it, but the pelican 1650 is a better case for that machine. |

Awesome idea renting it out and thanks a ton for the lens info. I built the clamp awhile bak an I'd say it was soooo worth it! I will definitely need a case I currently use a luggage bag and blankets lol
