just purchased first mac computer of my own however 6 years back i set up and used one for work. back then OS's came with install discs, now they don't (i know it's nothing new, this is my first machine in 7 years)
AFAIK, i need to DL and install XCode tools, which i largely have no interest in, just quartz, and then apply for a developers license. so far this is what i've found online. normal call to apple care and the tech not only had no idea what i was blathering about but after holding told me he wasn't allowed to talk to me about and directed me to developer.apple.......and going through that site it seems i need to have a developers account to get questions answered. i do believe the license is free? just don't want all that. am i going to have to just have to go the route i've found or is there another way? i know that in the past there were some peeps on the board heavily involved with quartz development so holding out hope for simpler solution. thank you |

Go to the appstore (should be installed) and search for Xcode. Quartz Composer is in the 'app' Xcode.

eventually i will just go that route but from what i've read quartz is no longer included automatically. that changed with the 3.3 release (or whichever is newest)
is this not correct? |

Quartz Composer is now part of the Graphics Tools for Xcode bundle, which can be found here https://developer.apple.com/download...aphics%20tools. I'm almost certain you don't need xcode installed on the machine to run it.

that's what i was hoping for. thank you. i had already installed Xcode and was just poking around looking for quartz. easily found the plug in option but didn't see quartz (stand alone i guess for lack of better term) but have yet to really go through Xcode. the link you provided required logins. so i do have to register as a developer?

not sure about needing Xtools or not only because i downloaded it first. but i registered as a developer and in the downloads section you grab the 'graphics for xcode' which in the side panel notes that it includes several items that used to be included in Xcode but are no longer, quartz being one of them. it's now all by itself and easily accessible.
thank you |
