The SEG actually has four blackburst outputs – presumably those would be fine to use? Although I don’t suppose I could sync the MX10 with blackburst as it has no dedicated sync in.
I’d planned to sync everything from the output of one scan converter (that doesn’t have genlock in) and then use the second scan converter (with genlock in) from a second PC for signal two. Of course it’s all going to get a bit mad weight and space wise, but usable for a music video or two perhaps. Also need to get a tube camera that I can use with the setup – had a lot of fun with the one I’ve got, but lacking the CCU and therefor any way to sync. More junk needed… |

I'd suggest recording some loops out of this setup, taking big old switchers out to gigs is too back breaking. Also I find the results can be quite varied and often the best stuff requires a fair bit of tweaking to get going, so your best off recording bits for use in VJsoftware playback later.
Remember to include both direct feedback loops and camera / monitor feedback! Wipes with feedback can be awesome I use small CCTV type cameras as you can find cheap secondhand ones which have genlock so will sync with old gear. I must get round to doing some Magic DaVE feedback recordings. I might even make a loop pack for people if i can find the time / be bothered!

you could try to connect one blackburst output from the seg2000 to the ext cam input on the MX10. at least this works with the panasonic ave5, which is the successor of the MX10.
or try an external blackburst generator like this one kramer 6003B and put one output to the genlock input on the Seg2000 and one to the ext cam input on the MX10.

Tom,
I think ultimately it will come down to recording some loops, yes – and then perhaps using those loops live with a little analogue feedback from one piece of equipment. Yup – love monitor feedback! Especially when a performer is between the screen and the camera – get a very layered holographic feel. Have tried some feedback on a CRT with the tube camera – interestingly it’s a totally different look, got to do a lot more with that. I’ve got a bunch of CCTV cameras sitting around, hadn’t thought to check if they had genlock in, will do so... devonmiles, I tried the cam input on the MX10 – doesn’t seem to act as a sync source alas, seems that only input 2 works for that. Would be really handy if it did… https://vimeo.com/44728799 - here's some very short snips from last Saturday... |

the combing is eventually not a genlock issue. how do you capture the final mixdown?

I think it's possible that that comes from the chroma keyer, asking it to do what it was never intended to do - doesn't really bother me however. In that case I recorded the set on mini DV, not the best solution but fine for this kind of thing.
