Default Creating and previewing low-res content

Hi folks,

I've been asked to develop some specific content for a set of Versatube panels, and as I sit down to get started, I realize I've never done anything quite this low-res before, and I'm finding it difficult to visualize when working in pixels that small, either in Photoshop or Aftereffects.

Any advice or workflow advice for developing content in the 128 x 32 pixel range? I've got plenty of existing low-res content that's working fine when run through the array as a whole, what I'm really hoping is to be able to build tube-specific content (for example, bumping each tube as a whole, as one could easily do with Octostrips).

Really, any advice appreciated! Rough plot of the array of tubes is attached.

Thanks!

Get a picture or a rendering preview of the stage where the verstube will be installed. Put a layer where each group of verstube will be and create some pre-composition for each group. Each layer should have the same width in pixels as the versatube resolution - play with scaling to make them fit with the picture. Adjust them with masks or whatnot to give them the proper shape. Then you can create your content in the pre-compositions and see how it would look on stage quite easily. Quick and dirty previz, and a good way to make sure your content fits with the "real" space between your displays.
