Default Need Transcoding Help 30/29.97 to 23.967

Hello

I need to transcode tons of clips from 29.97 / 30 fps to 23.967. Any suggestions? Would using compressor work?

Thanks
Sean

why do you want to do this?

most of your clips are timelapse are they not? you should simply change the playback rate. Using telecine processing will not look good as your not staring with interlaced source.

I am providing a bunch of clips for a network show and they are using a frame rate of 23.967. All my stuff is in 29.97 or 30P FPS. One of the editors told me that a 29.97 to 23.967 would look like shit due to dual interlaced frames. a 30 to 23.967 should look fine. Would batch encoding them using compressor work by changing the frame rate?

Thanks
Sean

What SleepyTom said : treat your timelapses as sequences of frames, and simply play them back at a different speed. This way all the frames will be shown and none will be skipped or doubled.

If you are worried about the technique to get that here is a very simple, if somehow brute-force, method to achieve this : simply render a sequence of still frames from your timelapse video, at its native framerate. Then import that sequence in after effects and interpret it as a 23.967 sequence. The duration of the clip will be longer, because you are effectively playing it at a slower speed, but you will have all the frames.

Yeah exactly that.

Plenty of films shot at 24p get shown at 25p on european broadcasts - nobody seems to notice.

You shouldn't need to render to intermediate still sequence - the after effects interpret footage function works just as well on video files, providing they are progressive scan of course!

Interlace is a massive PITA - why they invented 1080i is anyones guess..
