Talking 3d software on osx

I'm really looking for something simple and cheap (as I have no previous experience with anything 3d) (free would be even better) to learn 3d modelling etc. on... any suggestions?

cheetah3d is dope.. and super simple
I think it costs $99 (i've been using the demo), but I think it's ease of use justifies paying for it, vs. a complicated free product like blender

Have to agree. It's freeware and all I've heard is positive feedback. It has excellent tutorial support and a really active community.

mac or pc, i recomend allways Cinema4D, cause is stable (much more stable than max or maya) so you wont be dealing with the ocasional crashes, other thing is the interface: super intuitive and user friendly, you wont be digging for menus and funtions. besides it has a Module specific for motion graphics where you can bring to life loads of ideas, with minimun effort ( http://www.maxon.net/pages/products/...modules_e.html ) <-explore the MoGraph tab to get a taste.
and for tutorials on anything you choose check out lynda.com

I like Cinema4D and Blender. If you don't have the money, I suggest giving Blender a go as it's free! I think its a MUCH better product since the 2.5 release. Much easier interface to look at and use than previous releases and there's a slew of training materials available to get you up and running.

blender is a fairly straightforward install. If you're having problems, try going to http://graphicall.org/os-x Make sure you're choosing the right version for your OS (i.e. if you're running a non 64-bit version of OS X, choose 32 -bit.)

Google sketchup is free, and is fantastic for picking up basics, they also provide some great video tutorials, was up and running in no time. I found blender much too complex for my needs, although I didn't spend long with it, I had a lot of trouble with the UI, it's almost unusable with a standard mac mouse or touchpad.
