I have a basic VJ software question. I have a pre edited video i am projecting, that I just need to be able to "Go Black" (no clue what term to use) at certain times throughout the video, during live play. Basically similar to when a DJ throws the fader to the other channel with no audio, causing silence for a second, then moving back to the channel playing the audio. I do not need to pause or stop video, just go black for a few seconds, then continue. I have to believe that Vj software (preferably free due to the limited use I need this for) has such an option.
The purpose is, I have a complete DMX LED programmed light show playing during the track and video. However, I would like the stage to be completely dark during a few parts of the song. Playing the video from laptop to projector, I do not have this option. (Video is constantly on) I really do not want to add black frames in the video and re render all over again, especially since this is a one time use. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Do you want this pre-rendered or on the fly?

Any vj software can do this. Just fade the opacity quickly to 0. (you need a midi controller for this if you want to do it fast enough).

Yeah it would be on the fly. I was told most software has transparency option, which I guess is the correct term for this. An odd issue i have to say. Thanks guys for the responses. Any suggestions for free software that could easily handle this on the fly dilema? I produced all the audio as well as video content, designed the stage and working with a lighting technician for a fairly costly programmed light show, just never messed with VJ software so basic info is what I need.
Thanks guys |

You could use resolume. This program also has DMX input.
But it's quite expensive. |
