I think part of the issue with the VJamm interface is that it has had so many features added to it in the last few years without a complete redesign. I've heard rumours that VJamm3 is a complete rewrite, so I've got high hopes for the interface.
Even putting learning curve aside, I think the VJamm interface is not really suited to flexible improvisation. You just can't drop clips in on the fly like you can with resolume. It takes too long to set up each clip with the settings you want. When I use resolume or flowmotion, I tend to do a 'rolling' set where I add new clips and effects one by one. When I use VJamm, its is more about using one specific set of clips / effects that I've got set up, then moving to the next set. I don't care about the interface being pretty - i'd rather the workload of the application was concentrated on the output rather than the interface, but the VJamm UI definitely feels like an editor that you'd use in the calm of your studio rather than a live performance interface. That's why a midi controller is so important. Dan. Dan.

well what i want is a software that will allow me to be creative in the set, and not have a to precise plan before i start kickin...
as much as it is possible i want to perform my sets in the "same" way as i would work with painting paintings in the style of abstract expressionism and with the power of a painting graffiti-situation!! imagine me painting thos one: |

Nice work jungle, I realy like the detail to noise ratio, its a quest ti figure where the work starts and ends. For your visuals you might give Resolume a try, the 2.0 version is qite ambitious but the 1.5 is totaly stabile, they are both as intuitive as they get, not as versitile as modul 8 tough...
Read the manual, and you will be able to work it in a few hours. |

flowmotion is great for improvisation, but it is less of a 'video instrument' than more clip-focussed apps.
I see flowmotion as a nice halfway house between the intuitiveness of apps like resolume and the complexity of node-based apps such as visualjockey. We will often use flowmotion with little or no content - often just simple still images. We then use stacks of effects linked to the controllers in flowmotion to create all sorts of results. The increasing numbers of freeframe effects really help with this. There is a flowmotion demo download so give it a go! Dan.

I see the main diference in the browser, flomotion has this preeload to ram option ona a few more to tick befor you load the clip, resolume is drag and drop wich makes it easyer to brows and improvise from large banks. Of course flomotion has a more advanced audio analsis wich beats resolume 100%.
I have not jet tested the newer version of flomotion jet. |

jungle,
for me transzendent is still the best "live improvisation video tool" [sampler with ~150 files + effects + mixer, all very controllable, intuitive and responsive]. the only drawback of the original version was the fixed 320x240 resolution but the range of tzt possibilities worth that. all controls are hardcoded to pc keyboard, so as soon as you learn those hotkeys, you can play with nearly typographist speed [well, nearly ::]. also performance is quite ahead of any similar pc software - i used tzt with 320x240 indeo clips on p3/500 for two years with rather suitable results moreover, your demo pics do look very similar to what i usually got from tzt myself ::] for live sets shorter than 2 hours it's possible [and pretty easy] to get stuck with just notebook with tzt without any other device or software also newer versions do exist: opentzt [allows midi controlling of parameters] and hi-res tzt [640x480, but pretty unstable and has pretty limited set of effectors yet] resolume is also nice but not that fast and flexible with running all over your clips banks and effects. advantages - allows full screen rez and have smoother parameters control |
