'he's doing the superman thing again...' dl'd it overnight, watched it earlier today, here's my first impressions: I can see you've done a lot of work on this, but it seems to lack cohesion, some kind of unifying theme. it looks like you've used the 'compost method' ie gathered a load of random stuff and edited it together, with effects, until you hit some pre defined size or length. in itself there's nothing wrong with that, however as all the home shot footage only really has meaning for the participants, and very little for the viewer in the way of tension or dynamics then i can't see what you're trying to communicate, if anything at all. i get the feeling your kind of ticking ingredients off a list without actually having a wider or deeper concept: trippy bit : check ambient bit: check eco bit: check anti-war bit: check pounding bit: check 'real-life' bit: check and so on... it's a lot like channel hopping. or doing it because you can rather than because you should. take the gulf war section. i can see you we're trying to tackle a difficult subject, but the film didn't really offer anything more than a sort of 'war is bad' point of view without going any deeper into it. when the girl clip came in mixed with it i thought 'ah-ha here we go, context, juxtaposition, sex and death and the red queen, kali the destroyer plus the things men do to prove themselves, the tribal ritual of conflict and aggression etc etc' but as it continued it felt like a missed oppurtunity. technical comments: sound might need evening out a bit, voices too quiet, bangs too loud. video seems overcompressed. is that delay/compression effect intentional? i appreciate your potential filesize limitations etc, you may want to consider working on several, separate high quality episodes rather than one large project which is just going to get mangled if your too heavy with the divx compression. this might help seperate out the thematics etc as well colours are fantastic though. and some of the sound/light simultaneous moments were ace please don't misunderstand me, i don't want to just rip your stuff to shreds, I'm actually very impressed, this has to be the biggest thing i've ever seen on VJF, and it gave me a warm feeling watching it. It's the kind of thing i want to do, and if i'd posted such a big project i'd find the constructive criticism much more useful at this stage than just pat's on the back so to speak, and that's why i must stress, this is all in my opinion after one viewing, and i've tried to be as subjective as i can. hope this review helps with your further endeavours. thank you for the reply 3YE , i agree with all you said ... and i even think some parts are really boring ...
the reason i put this online is becose its a clasic movie already , i dont know if you notice some dates showing in the movie ... 1996 ... almost 10 years now ... when i did this movie i was sure that there was no plot , nothing to hold on to ... so it would look like a decomentary or something like it ... yes the girl in the war clip is execly what you said ... man fighting for stupid goals ... when all it mathers is love ... sex ... reproduction ... you are the first person that got that from there , most poeple think i put the girl there just for fun ... i never said it like you did , but that was the feeling. --------------------------------------------------------- I'm a bit stressed on the download -------------------------------------------------------- why ? you cant save target as ? try whyle pressing CTRL key Clic in the SERES link , then chose Save Target As ...
