hey
i havn't put much thought into this, but was thinking about a few of the somewhat narrative AV pieces i have seen lately, and some of the more abstract AV pieces, and while the club format might not totally fit into this algorhythm (it isnt a total fit anyway) i keep on thinking that we are related somehow to the era of short silent films. sure we do an awful lot more in realtime (duh) but i was thinking how similar an AV piece could be in many respects to Melies' flight to the moon or a Maya Deren piece. or even dziga vertov...... ok obviously they didnt have sound, so there was no A interacting with the V (though sometimes they had a musician in the theater trying to keep up with the visuals-- take that dj! but the disjointed storytelling, the rhythms.... i think that there is something more similar to teh silent era than to experimental film or hollywood or worse yet, music videos.... just food for thought lilCat |
