Cool. I'm pretty much in the same situation. May MBP is aging and I can't afford a new one. I'm not sure about running VDMX on a mini or air, so I'll probably have to switch to pc and Resolume is pretty much the obvious choice.

Gary, did you end up converting everything to DXV?

The only crashes I've had have been by using syphon as an fx loop, so I can use datamoshing plugins in vdmx, although in the latest version that seems solid, and with the new mappio plugin, was was very shonky at the weekend, and nearly made me go grey! Otherwise its been stable, I've had a few other random bugs but no deal breakers...

yeah so, converting from PNG to DXV made a jump from 14fps with 3 layers to 60fps ...
I'm impressed.

Strangley I went in the other direction. Resolume to M8.

I could run Avenue 3.3.3 with 640x480 clips. 3 layers at a steady 50-60fps. somtimes it would dip below 40/30 fps but always rock solid, then...

Moved to M8 and had no problems running a similar set up.

Now I'm at a stage where one of my gigs will be a dual head 2 go setup.

Now producing clips at 2048x768 and running 2 layers im getting 19/20 fps in Ave 3.3.3 and 30fps in Avenue 4.1.2. still pretty juttery. Ave seems to burn my laptop right up. Of course this is due to the decoding on GPU and M8 tends to be less hot. saying that running similar loops in M8 and its lagging...

MBP 2010
i7 2.3 - I think.
7200 RPM HDD.

Maybes an SSD will do me performance wise but i dont really want to upgrade it.

anyways those are my thoughts.

EDIT: only thing i dont like about M8 is what's been mentioned about media and only havent 128 spaces...

From my experience, Resolume has been totally solid for me. I use to run Avenue 3 on an old 2009 MBP and I run 4 now on a 2011 MBP and have zero problems stacking clips and effects.

On a pc its aften something to do with running other background processes, so if you make sure to eliminate those you can push as many layers and effects on it as you like, the fps will offcource go down but resolume will keep running.

Making your pc laptop a resolume only tool will make sure that nothing else gets in there. And turn of your internet so windows dont suddenly start updating

I hope there will come a updated modul8 soon, its kind of a shame if 90% of all vj`s ends up using the same program, imo..

Resolume 4 is rock solid. So was version 3, but 4 is even more so. I had it running 12-14+ hours a day for a week strait. Read more here:
