Hi folks, I'm the technical manager of a fairly large club in the UK. It has recently become my responsibility to look into and provide visuals for events and I'm very keen to step up and do this well. I have got the demo version of Resolume on my PC laptop and quicktime pro on an old G4 which I will use to convert film clips for use in resolume. I've got the DXV codec on my Mac but can't seem to find it in the export options of quicktime. I know the tradition on these tech forums is to just call me a name and put a link to another thread where this would be, but helpful suggestions would be nice too. The plan is to make the folk with the money see what can be produced in house and give me the cash to buy a decent media server and macbook to produce and deliver good content to our customers.

Hey,
I'm not sure, but my bet is DXV codec support only Intel based Macs, so won't be usable on a G4 machine. But as I said, i'm not 100% sure about this.

we dont "think" it will work on a g4 due to them using a different byte order to intel based macs ( i work with the man who wrote DXV ) - we have never tested it though.

OK, thanks for the answer. So, is there an alternative to buying quicktime for my Windows machine as I am hoping to get a Macbook to produce visuals with, if I can prove it's a worthwile investment for the company. Obviously the DXV codec is installed on my windows machine with Resolume. I have some MOV files produced externaly for our corporate sponsors that I want to incorporate into a showreel.

Thanks Chief! I'm just a little endian here for the moment. I'll give mpegstreamclip a go.

ps. dont fall into the trap of thinking you have to have a mac to make visuals.

Thanks sleepytom for the tip on mpegstreamclip, it works a treat. You know that already though.
I've resisted the Mac thing for a long time and am a staunch defender of the PC, even Windows! It's just that the people who buy things tend to ignore me when I say I need a particular spec and go for the cheaper option. If I say a 15" macbook pro is what I need, they cant get an inferior model. the basic 15" model is well spec'd. If i say I need a 15" Windows laptop, I'll end up getting a Dell with integrated graphics and 2 gig of ram.... Funnily enough, Resolume does seem to run reasonably well on my 4 year old AMD powered Dell with 2 gig of ram..... I just want to sit in Starbucks, looking like a hipster. |
