Hi I'm thinking of using my ipad2 as a minimal VJ solution.
I'm looking at software like http://www.algoriddim.com/vjay or Touchviz. If I get the ipad video out adaptor does the whole screen (including all the UI elements) get mirrored to the external display or just the preview portion. Or is it an extension of the 'desktop' as in a macbook, ie you have a second screen to display things. I'm hoping it's the latter, if so what happens when the apps aren't in the foreground? |

Its the latter.
![]() You get a full screen output on both software via a VGA or AV out cable (haven't tested HDMI yet), they are both pretty good softwares for a portable solution. Both have to be the active app to display output.

Hello,
I try to upload some of my footage in the vjay app, but it doesn't work. I tried mp4 and h.264 codecs but i can't see the clips inside the app. Can someone explain to me how this is done? grt randy |

try rebooting the ipad, i've had occasion where my clips disappear then reappear again when restarted after a mad session on touchviz.
i've found the most reliable way to get files onto the ipad in the right format 100% every time is to Share from Quicktime player to iTunes.

another consideration with the iPad is that it can't decode m4v files with fps greater than 30!
i've run into an issue trying to import some original AV loops into VJAY. the 5 second loop i export out of VEGAS loops perfectly on my desktop (h264 at 60fps) but it won't load on iPad, so i have to convert it to 30fps using handbreak and that always sticks some black space at the start or truncates the loop so it isn't seamless in VJAY. any ideas on getting that working appreciated

You can simply adjust your vegas output template to spit out the correct format videos for the ipad. If your vegas is a recent one then it should have preset for ipad video preconfigured for you.
Rendering 60fps H264 and then re-rendering it to 30 fps will cause a loss of quality, its much better to export your clips directly from the vegas timeline.

Open the file with quicktime.....Share - iTunes
plug ipad in, open itunes, go to movies, tick the movie to add to iPad, sync.
