Default Channel 4 house party (Live VJs on UK on mainstream TV for 6 hours)

As I am in tonight and nothing on the box I see that Channel 4 have a night of house music with VJs

starting in an hour or so

http://www.channel4.com/programmes/h...ty-the-details

I think I'll watch a bit of it.

Any VJs here that are involved?

Right this night has started it lasts 6 hours (12 til 6am) but I am doing to dump my thoughts here about the night as the it goes on.

Hopefully no UKs ppl can can download it at some point or stream it live somehow.

It is a live night (and no adverts too) and DJ Grandmaster Flash is on first with the VJ as Weirdcore (wearing a gasmask - no it is not Steve G) http://vimeo.com/weirdcore

First up, I wish Grandmaster Flash would just shut up _ it always drives me nuts in clubs when the DJ/MC talks all the time and it is every 2 seconds atm.

Now they are all live in a studio

Weirdcore did the AphexTwin stuff a while back and style is a bit glitchy.

But there is not much VJing going on. Live cameras most of the DJ so no surprise there. There are a few monitors in the DJ/VJ booth

I am trying to work out how much command the VJ has over the broadcast live.

There are a few nice effects that Weirdcore has done with the live camera feeds but some of the glitchy stuff I feel could be (Max headroom type 8 bit man for example) better especially as I am watching in HD.

There is a Hexstatic AV set up later.....

grandmaster flash chatting over music is no worse than vjs prancing about in front of the visuals.....

enjoying the show though....

odd flashes of visual niceness..

cool tunes....

enhancing my mellowness nicely.

The point is I am enjoying the music no need for shout outs to Liverpool, etc every 10 seconds.

And if a Vj was prancing in front of the screen I would complain more.

Any Weirdcore all finished now. I like some of his stuff but whta IMHO he does best is the camera work manipulation (I imagine not all camera are Kinect enabled there where he has done some really nice work) and some of the editing over the top cut it short. This night could work out really well with co-ordinated editing.

I loved seeing him sneak off out at the en dof teh set.

Robin from Hexstatic up now Annie Mac DJing

I am still watching it but flagging a bit now.

I am most disappointed for the setup here Vj get maybe total 5 minutes per hour of their stuff.

I know there are not the main draw (but are 3 bearded blokes in catsuits.....)

Of what I have seen I have been let down by some stuff and liked others.

I'll be honest as ever some of hexstatics (2 seperate hour sets) didn't look enough high enough resolution and some of it looked blocky. I loved the stuff Stuart did with the mixing over the rotating turntables.

But overall I was let down with the setup of the C4s coverage. Sometimes/often you can see the VJ mixing and nothing is on any screen apart from their monitor.

There are ridiculous fragments of screens around top of the stage - there is a hexagon setup stage but screens/monitors dotted around so no-one can see the overall picture. It is difficult to describe (esp at this time in the morning)

Loved blinklabs stuff

Thought aszyk stuff

http://www.channel4.com/programmes/h...ticles/aszykte
was really crisp but I got bored of the same "eye" stuff as it went on too long 40 minutes + I need more variety.

In purely terms of 'getting the vibe across' then in my opinion Soul II Soul owned the show.
