its a bit strange London is empty as all previous Olympics game the cities hosting got filled with tourists and some local economic like hotels and services benefit from it.
how come London is so empty, people of London, care to explain why you think that happened? p.s Scratchpole - i'm happy you are back to write alittle in here. love your Revolutionary take Welcome back, if I may, not to scare you away x |

none of the usual tourists have come because prices are so high and all the flights and hotels are sold. ( usually the Olympic organisers block buy every room in the city two years in advance, then sell them back to punters at 300% - they'd rather they stay empty than drop the price) there are people here, but they are not 'in London', they are at the games, so while macdonalds is doing well, everyone else is liable to go bust as takings for this period are 30% down on previous years.

London has made a huge effort to discourage anyone from going to the city whilst the games are on. Hotel prices (which normally are some of the highest in the world) have been doubled or tripled for the duration of the games. There have been posters and announcements on the trains warning people against "non-essential" travel during the games. Much like the Cornish eclipse of 1999 the fear of congestion has resulted in lower transport use than would be normal for the time of year. The Lecog nazis have ensured that it is basically impossible to organise an Olympic themed event without going through the hyper expensive hoops of branding and sponsorship rules. This has ment that many organisations who would of liked to put on supporting events around the games have been unable to do so. Shops who have put up window displays featuring the rings have been threatened with legal action, there have been mass arrests of street artists and cyclists with bail conditions imposed to attempt to stamp out any discent. The who thing is a massive clusterfuck with the added feature of extra British Bureaucracy to ice the cake.

Tom's got it.
Here in Vancouver two years ago, every hotel room was booked by Olympic staff or sponsors six months to a year ahead, to the point that we were renting up apartments and houses just to have a place for our out-of-town staff. Same as Tom describes, after two years of hand-wringing news stories about how awful the traffic would be, everyone who wasn't working was so afraid to drive that transit was packed and traffic was the lightest it had been in years. |

Hi Everyone,
Not been on here for ages. Glad to see Inside Us All crew involved in all this. Excellent stuff. Watching the closing ceremony right now. Portable LEDs look great, overall really effective at a distance; especially seeing how spaced out they are up close.

![]() Immersive really has taken this whole VJ thing to the next level, and shouts out for that! It is the way large installations are going to be done in the future!! One thing I would of like to see more of tho, was actual video on those pixels!(as opposed to motion graphics) Maybe that would require more horsepower for the added resolution that would be needed to make it look sharp at stadium size, but it would be truly awesome to see.. Again, the work done by Dave and the rest of the Immersive/Avolite crew can be only summarized as impressive
