Default Simple Windows VJing software ?

Hello all. Am a newbie just getting into a bit of AV stuff.

Was wondering if anyone could suggest free (or cheap-ish) Windows XP software for doing very basic VJing ?

All I'm after is a simple bit of software that will enable me to mix the video and audio, between one mpeg (or avi) and another, using a MIDI controller to crossfade between the two.

I don't particularly need effects capabilities, or even the ability to render my performance as an mpeg / avi, just a simple "mixer" really, for live work. Maybe the ability to overlay captions would be useful.

The basic version of Vjamm for £50 looks like it might be capable of the above....but if anyone knows of any cheaper packages, I'd be really grateful for suggestions.

cheers
