Default help with my audio-visual dream set-up!

Hello everyone!

I'm an absolute beginner to both the VJ and DJ world - so all this seems a bit daunting....but a really exciting! my background is in graphic design - so I have some experience with the motion graphic side to things - so I guess thats a start!

Just wanted to say what I want to work towards and then if anyone had any ideas to how I would start then that would be amazing!! Apologies for the layman terms!

So my ideal A/V set-up would be some way to link sound with a preset lighting sequence and a pre-made video for each tune....so when live djing, the music would be in sync with lights and video. Is this set-up possible?

I have looked into using Ableton with maybe an APC40 controller as I know that you can configure these to work with video/lights too - however, I don't really have a first clue to find out how!

I have no equipment yet - just a Macbook Pro. but I was thinking as I begin learning how to mix - I could start to create videos/animations for individual tunes (as this is something that I'm familiar with!)...so when I get comfortable djing (2/3 years later, haha!) then I'll be able to link the videos with sound easily enough!

Hope all the above makes sense! sorry if I'm asking for too much advice! any help would be amazingly appreciated!

cheers,

Kevin

I think what your wanting to do can all be done in Resolume. Its a powerful AV tool and Ableton can be used to drive it.

www.resolume.com

Download the demo and have a try! Great you have a GD background as that will help you loads!

Good luck with it

Tips: read the manual, see the movies from resolume headquarters and above all experiment!

Btw, the apc20 is also really great with resolume if you're on a budget.
