I don't see the 17" ever coming back.
Theres also word out now that the ram is soldered on and the SSD is a new connection type so 3rd party upgrades to the later might be a way off. Best buy with 16GB of ram - which is a surprisingly cheap option on the Apple site ($US200). |

do you think it's possible to use the 2 thunderbolt ports (or 1 thunderbolt + 1 hdmi) together? in that way a Dual Head 2 Go is no longer necesary I suppose or maybe even a triple head?
would be nice if this is able I think...

I'm also dying to find out if we'll be able to use all 3 display ports at once, if so it's looking like I'll have to start saving up.
Also, I posted this in another thread but it belongs here too. http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-...M.71887.0.html Some confirmation the the nvidia chip can actually support 4 displays. *patiently awaits a review* Last edited by Psychofae; 14th June 2012 at 09:33 AM. |

The ram is soldered on? Where did you hear that?
So you cant put a non-OEM SSD in the new macbook pro´s? With my previous mac with 1gb 6770m, I had no problem running 3 x 1280 x 800 with a matrox in Resolume with the DXV codec. So I guess running two matrox, maybe going a little bit down in resolution shouldnt be science fiction with this one. Although I agree its a shame they discontinued the 17 inch, that screen estate was worth it. One thing I always wondered: does the display use integrated or dedicated graphics? Is it possible to use integrated graphics for the display and dedicated for the thunderbolt ports? Since its not possible to change resolution on the screen (only scaling) it essentially eats away GPU. Oh, and photoshop is supposed to support the new resolutions in the new future.

To be honest I find this machine to be not that expensive. You get 512gb flash memory, a great display, usb3 and two thunderbolt ports, 8gb ram for pretty cheap. The same configuration with the old one will actually cost about the same. Yeah, the memory cant be swapped out and the ssd has different connectors, but if you get a good insurance you actually might save money in the long run. My insurance has covered my last three laptops with at least 70% and in some cases 150% of the new price since I upgraded some components myself.

I think that your insurance company wont keep covering your computers ? Or at least up the cost quite a bit.
Of Course nobody bought the 17" when it was something like +40% the cost of a 15", and i understand them its much easier just to have one product that everyone buys the two. |
