im looking for a mini-screen to use as a preview,
mount on some kind of desk-stand? economical in space and economical in price, hopefully. it is to use while playing Machinedrum from the DJ booth, alongside is a four-high tower of half-size dvd players with a edirol v4 on top, mixing the video. when performing tonight, i could only get the club's projector to accept the signal from the V4's "preview" output, mixed without any previewing capability at all. hopefully that issue (whatever it is) will be ironed out and then i can use the preview output as a preview screen. also considering the use of video glasses, if there is a model with external video input... guessing this is a more expensive option. cheers for any help.

used to play with an old glasstron, Pro: ppl like the attitude, u get more photos then the dj, eventually more bookings. Cons: Heavy headaches after a short time, u get stucked on the "the guy with the glasses" role, the ladies are too shy to notice the guy behind the glasses (and you dont notice them).
Anyway, i guess the cyberglasses / glove metaphor is a bit dated, kinda 90s style....nice to impress but doesnt work out in reality (at the moment). ![]() Ahoi, Michael Last edited by videoking; 30th July 2010 at 09:35 PM. |

i love the name Glasstron ..
would be cool to play an Elektron Machinedrum whilst wearing Glasstrons. what do they look like inside ... im thinking the reality would almost be like inside the Tron circuitry. many glowing points of light and computer people on fast machines. lol re/ ladies being too shy to notice the guy behind the glasses. tbh im trying to find ways of hiding from the audience, to the point of considering the idea of bringing a 24inch monitor to place on the dj bench, so that no one has direct viewing position. i do not know why this is .. natural shyness, a vj predilection for anonymity whilst mixing .. when playing audio aswell, there seems to be no option except to embrace the audience, be there for them, with them, or even against them on occasion - all in a friendly way, with a smile. there is a musical journey, ready for all to enjoy, if only the ego games can be escaped, and the real enjoyment begins. or, beckons. as george clinton so lyrically proposed: 'put a dip in yo hip and a glide in yo stride, and come along to the mothership'. currently my plan is this: to use a mirror, about 3 inches high, on the bench, giving the view of the projection screen. this way, i don't have to continually look over (past the people) at the screen to be sure that everything looks alright. also, means that no video screen is in the dj booth, thereby avoiding any type of computer-looking activity. preview screens are cool for when vj-ing, but when performing on a Machinedrum, the dynamic seems to need to be different. sorry for writing so much, and thanks for posting the magnificent photograph of the mighty Glasstron. |
