Question HD upload to YouTube (from AFX) - BEST FORMAT? etc.

So, I'm starting to upload HD clips to You Tube,
but have been getting a lot of errors, etc.
"Upload Aborted" (when I did not click anything)

When doing standard def clips,
I had great results using AFX's "H264" selection rather than "quick time"
but that compressor refuses to do any size other that 720 x 480. (why?)

I tried "H264 for Blue Ray)" but that was totally un-viewable.

So I've selected the ".MOV" selection, and just used "H264" as the codec setting, but still they don't like it.

So what DO they like? Suggestions, discussion please.

Over all, H264 is a pretty amazing codec for many purposes.
(Though MJPEG is still better for VJ clips, I know.)

AVCHD!

Yea start with that.

I'm recommended a 5000kbs data transfer for a HD h264 compressed video. It's what I use with Youtube and Vimeo. The compression of Vimeo is a lot better than that of Youtube, imo.

Yes, I did read that, of course.

Even though it's detailed, it could be more so, certainly,
given that each mistake wastes HOURS of upload time.

I guess it's "trade secrets", but I'd like to know more what is going
on under the hood of the conversion to what you see online.

BTW - Have they discontinued the YouTube uploader app?

I guess I will continue to mess around with the settings until something works?

I've never had any issues with youtube uploads.

i don't bother trying to render the files in after effects though, i just export lossless mjpeg from afx and then use mediacoder or handbreak to transcode to h264

y'know, that's not a bad idea... ;-) thanks

I've had few problems myself... until this week??
even my standard def uploads have been labled "error"
(though they were viewable afterward?)

adobe should synch their export options with youtube...
the latest version of iMovie actually uploads it for you inside the program(!)
not bad for casual videos.

I guess that's another option... 'cause it can import .MOV's
though the controls are consumer level, not pro

thanks for suggested parameters.

Unlike many here, I have no Vimeo account, figuring that YouTube has a larger audience, and now equal (?) video and sound size,

but I guess I might as well have both. What an era of free video hosting we now live in! Do you remember when we had to embed Quicktimes on our own servers? ;-)

(do you remember when the internet had NO PICTURES? beyond ASCII art)

Well, Vimeo is a specific audience. Lots of people into video use it. Rather than funny stupid videos or old TV shows. Defo get yourself on Vimeo. I also have a Youtube account, as you've said, it's huge. It's also one of the most used sites on the entire net. Not just for videos but as a search engine too. After Google it is the most used site for searches. More than Yahoo and Bing.

Default upload headaches on YouTube

Have you tried VideoMach 5? I use it to make my fractal animations in a variety of resolutions including HD1080.
