yeah but potentially the xone 3D is the "one controller to rule them all".

it has enough buttons and controllers that you could from one interface control ableton live and your vj software and your v4 slaved to it.

with the DJM-800 you would need another midi controller for the video if you were running a software AV/set.

this is what i am thinking about, (but I would use Traktor 3). So, is this possible?

is what possible? using the xone3d as a midi controller? sure it is.

the xone 3d seems to be a standard 4 channel audio mixer with a USB sound card inside it and two custom midi controllers bolted on the sides.

all the controllers and knobs are midi mappable, even the standard audio mixer controls...

I got to play with one @ Entech in sydney... looks pretty cool. Would be good if I finally ever get to go A/V.

Roger,
why does the DJM 800 need a midi controller? All it's knobs and faders send midi cc's and are programable.

I'm just looking at how many controllers the DJM800 has. I don't think it has enough to control audio mixing + video mixing + video fx so if I was building a complete AV rig using the DJM800 I'd end up buying something like a Behringer BCF2000 to have enough controls and the combination of the two controllers would take up more space than a xone3D.

if you currently have no pro audio mixing gear and want to build an av rig the xone 3d is pretty reasonably priced as it's a very high end pro audio mixer, a pro multi channel sound card and a custom midi controller all in one. eg it's perfect for "silent vj's" that want to add av to their existing rigs.

Also, if you're running sound out of ableton with the DJM800 you'd need an external firewire or USB2 pro audio box, the xone3d does away with that.

yea, I guess it is all how you have your A/V rig setup and what you have the midi controllers doing.
If one was to use the DJM800's(which is 24/96 BTW) midi to control ableton, (assigning the appropriate cc to the appropriate perameter) and have the same cc assigned to the VJ soft fx, (so as they compliment each other IE like have the DJM800's eq's also assigned to the transperency value in the VJ soft for example) then I think the DJM800 has enuf knobs to do it.
Now there will be some audio/vj soft perameters that need to have just one or the other setup, but a small 2nd dedicated midi controller is not hard to hook into the equation.

I guess we'll see were thetrend goes, but if one does get into getting A/V gigs at clubs and festivals, I think being more versed on the DJM800 is the best bet, as pioneer obviously dominates the market with their DJ mixers..(always the mixer I see at gigs anyhow)b

definitely always good to learn all the Pioneer kit....

I do see the Allen and Heath Xone mixers at a lot of larger gigs here, I'm guessing they have much more of market presence in EU/UK seeing as they are a UK company.
