Lightbulb Archive.org (Prelinger) as a VJ repository!

I have been corresponding with the folks at archive.org, home of the Prelinger archives and the phenonmenal moving picture creative commons repository, about adding a new category called 'VJ Clips.' This would be a place to put clips into the public domain.

The intial response is very favorable. They say that they will only usually start a new category if they have more than 100 items for it. I'd donate pretty close to that as an initial kickoff (I've decided to pretty much give away all my clips and force myself to start fresh.)

I'd like to get an idea of wether others would consider donating and at what level. If we could get 200 clips (they need to be clips you have the right to put in the public domain) then it's probably a lock.

Archive.org is badass and you should check it out under any circumstances, but it's an especially great place to house open VJ clips (IMHO.)

Default What kinda clips/formats do VJs want?

It's been my plan to release OpenTZT in a CD/DVD format with loads of open source (public domain) clips, so yeah, I'm down with the idea. Is there some other terminology I should be using to describe royalty free clips I give away for (almost) free?

But a good question is, what kinds of clips would VJs want to use? And what format will the clips on Archive.ORG be? I'm guessing that most people would prefer something lossless (or very close to it) like MidiVid motion JPEG at 90-100% (as it's free and easy to reencode to your preferred format).

Or is there some way to avoid MPG4 banding on gradients that I'm not aware of?
