if you can get a hand on "Twist" from Goldfrapp, have a look at it, it's a great piece!!! it's a kind of cartoon-ride! very beautiful and trippy images in there!

Chris Cunningham rules! and there will be a dvd out shortly with some of his stuff (videos, commercials, etc...)

yeh its pretty good use of animation and composited live action - quite advanced for its time. director Steven Barron won a load of prizes for it.

whilst we're back in the 80's has anyone else spotted the Fairlight CVI on early Kylie videos (note to self - GET OUT MORE you sad sad idiot)

Default Don't know the director's name...

But I assume it's the same person who did both:
Mouse on Mars- Shunkle
Microstoria- Sleepy Windows Network Down.
They used to show these on MTV Eupore's Alternative Nation about 5 years ago. They are both treated "found" film. The Mouse on Mars one looks like the film has been printed on in a Harry Smith kind of way. The Microstoria one seems to be S8 footage of an empty town/industrial estate but treated with strobing wipes and key framed masks. Probably done in after effects.
Both are so good the music sounds like it might have been composed to fit the visuals.
These might be available to download on the web.
I still have them on VHS somewhere.
Rick

"cassation" by michael strohmann, petra zopnek & manfred karrer
from "anchortronic 5.1" dvd [staalplaat]
- _the_ craziest pixels ever seen; mad machinery at it's best

the avalanches - "frontier psychiatrist"
from "visual niches - extraordinary music video" dvd
- same kind of ingenious madness but about people, not pixels

some 40sec sample from not-yet-ready video on cunningham's dvd - don't remember the title - fantastic human monster shot in grainy black-green low light style

of course unkle - "eye for an eye" by shynola and bjork - "all is full of love" by cunningham
