Hey, how's it going? I just been filtering through my box of old tapes. I saved everything I've ever recorded, which I figured was wise, but there's alot of duplicates, replication, and a fair few tapes I could do with recording over. I was wondering what other people's advice on this is. Is it best to use fresh tapes for all takes, or is there room to record over stuff you're done with? Are there quality issues, does the tape get glitchy and that, and is it too much hassle to look through everything you record after the first take to check for glitches? Any thoughts always very much appreciated... Thanks in advance.

i remember advice for no more than 2-3 repeat recordings.
if it was for an important project with budget, would use new tapes ; otherwise i have some dv tapes used about 20 times & are still fine.

I just spent two weeks capturing all my old DV tapes before they decay.
most are fine but some of the old ones are starting to go.. |

up to ten years.
its usually the leader that goes, - the first minute or two is buggered, the rest is fine, but I guess its only a matter of time. |

which has it's own issues of course! (mainly, extreme hard drive usage! plan to get a BluRay burner soon to handle this...) But of course, I wont miss the FFWD and REW to find the content I'm looking for! (though it can be equally annoying with digital files! If one doesn't stop / start often enough during a long recording session...) |
