Hello folks,
I'm currently working on a new version of openTZT. First step is to clean up the sourcecode, the documentation and the distribution ZIP file. There will be no new features for this step, but I did a lot in the background (e.g. mutithreading, render engine works in background, Alt-Tab works, ...). After that we already have a long ToDo-list with lots of new features. But there are also some things I would like to get rid of, but I don't know if anyone is using those features. So if anyone really needs the fullscreen mode for the main window or the network support please tell me and I consider keeping it for the new version. BTW, the new doc can be found here http://opentzt.sourceforge.net/ (remember, it's still under construction, ask for specific parts and I will add them) plexus ... |

Yep, its all happening
![]() personally I'd like to see the network function left in as the idea of one machine jsut sending key presses to others on the network is a really useful option, not one I've actually used myself but I know others have and I'd like to maintain it as an option for the future, as for full screen that doesn't phase me, I always use mind windowed.

Great, I'm glad to see the software being taken further.
I use it on my 2nd machine and love it. I think it definitely needs to be a little more user friendly and the ui cleaned up.

Whats the great advantage over DX? Beside porting to other platforms maybe?
But ... what about real video streaming over lan? Could make out of 3 old PCs a nice 2 person mixstation. |

Portability is my main angle - I'd like to be able to use OpenTZT on OSX, or on Linux. The other side of it is I'd like to see support for FFGL

Wow, I didn't know openTZT is known that well
![]() I won't disappoint anybody, but the next release will have no new features, at least no noticable features. The most work is done at the render engine. It's slightly faster, and supports multithreading, which is useful for multi processor systems. Ok, one often demanded feature is working already: openTZT keeps working even if it's in background. About DirectX versus OpenGL: I worked with OpenGL, and believe me: It's slow! Even it's 2D capabillities. It's not designed for realtime video, so DirectX is the best choice for windows. A Mac-port seems quite impossible because of the many assembler routines which work close with DiectX. The network part will be revised and (maybe/hopefully) sped up. plexus ... |
