Default Live Camera Feed Cameras? V4? Composite to Component?

Ok,
So I am fairly new to this VJ thing, have been Djing for the past 8 years and I have to say that Video is a world that I never thought could be so rewarding or exciting. So let me preface this post with a warning that if I ask a stupid question, feel free to give me a stupid answer. Anyways, I just scored a residency at the newest club in town, and I am in need of my own camera to incorporate live feeds into my set. I am currently borrowing the casinos Panasonic P2, and am running it via Fire wire into my NUVJ Arkaos software. This proves to be a good quality, high speed option for my live feed needs. However, I want my own camera. I am in the process of buying a V4, mostly because of the versatility of it and the fact that I could in theory hook up multiple cameras to it (Channel 1 NUVJ/ Laptop out, Channel 2 Camera 1, Channel 3 Camera 2, etc.)
So here is the question…What is a good camera to buy that would work both ways. My NUVJ/ ARkoas supposedly accepts any USB or Firewire camera, and I don’t really see the point in spending mucho $$ on something like a P2. I also want to have the option of incorporating the camera into my v4 as well, so the camera should be able to output both ways (USB/Firewire OR Composite/ S-Video)
I would say my budget will be between $500-$1000. I’m really new to this camera thing so any suggestion would be much appreciated.
Also, is the V4 the way to go for a basic video mixer? Oh and one more question….The club that I am playing in has all of their input as component (RGB/ 3 Pin).Is there a good converter to turn my BNC into Component? Does the V4 have this option as an output? Does the v8?
Thanks again….

im not a master of cameras, so i will pass on that part....

the v4 is pretty much an industry standard for VJ's, its a handy tool. the v8 builds on the v4 by adding more inputs including 2 inputs for vga signals from computers ( although it can only mix one of those inputs at a time - ie you cant mix vga 1 and vga 2 together )

the v4 and v8 only output on composite or svideo, so to interface either of those with what you have in your club, you will need to get a scanconvertor ( search for scan convertor in these forums for some reccomendations )

what do you want to do with the camera?

run around and shoot like a news cameraman and record your footage, or just put it somewhere and leave it pointing at whatever walks in front of it.
a lot of people on the board use PTZ security cameras which you can remotely control - Pan Tilt Zoom - these can be very high quality or very poor.... which of course is reflected in the price...

A casino you say?
Are the casino paying for the kit? if so then you should forget the V4 and V8 they are toys..

I would spec the new sony HD mixer - BRS-200 and a few sony remote cams such as BRC-300 or BRC-H700 - connect them to the mixer with SDI signals. The nice thing about this setup is you can directly control the cameras from the mixer giving you the ability to recall preset positions whilst cutting. This will allow you to cover much more of the action without needing camera operators

Get the DVI input board for the mixer so you can plug your laptop in directly.
Get the analogue output board for the mixer and you'll be able to plug into the house component system though i'd suggest that they upgrade that stuff to SDI really.

-------
If your paying for the kit then get a V8 mixer and a secondhand sony PD170 camera. Remember to charge the casino a hire fee for supplying the vision mixer and camera. Composhit to component is best done with a Folsom Image Pro (the casino might already have one) if they haven't got a folsom then they might have a sony DSC-1024 which will also do. Failing that you'll need to buy something, possibly a secondhand sony 1024 or a smaller simpler box such as kramer FC-16.

Make sure they pay you extra for providing all this equipment. The DJ doesn't bring his own decks and you can be sure as hell he would charge extra if he had to.
