So I HAVE looked through the forums on this subject but I am still left a little bit confused.
As a solution for a long cable run, I have read that CAT-5 or SDI cable are the way to go. I don't want to derail this thread on which one is better. Here is my question... from a hardware/cable standpoint. I have a powermac with DVI out. What hardware (dongle) do I use to get the signal from DVI to CAT-5 and then on the other end, what do you use to get the signal back into the projector? Is it simply cable conversions or is there software involved? Sorry about the newb question, but I had no idea CAT-5 Xferred video signal, but I guess that doesn't make sense since it just data anyways... Drrrr. Thanks all. |

you dont need software to do it.
you will need a sender and a reciever, one for either end of the cable. you will need to convert your FVI output to vga to use vga - cat5. |

VJ Air has got the recommendation there mate. CAT5 is merely a pathway. The transmitter and receiver are what seperate the signal to your requirements. No software for that.

There are a lot of options.
I prefer extron, they have a bunch of different models but here is their cheapest: http://www.extron.com/product/product.aspx?id=vtr001&subtype=215 |
