Question So should I even bother with Motion.Dive.Tokyo or should I go straight to Resolume

Im hearing some negative comments about MDT being too basic

And I seem to hear nothing but praise about Resolume

I have a feeling making this thread is like someone in a dj forum asking "what should I buy instead of Technics", so plz dont flame me!

Would love your advice guys, thanks for your time

I think you are not doing yourself any favours by only looking at 2 pieces of software, and letting others decide for you. Download as many demos as you can, and give each one at least an afternoon to see what they offer you. Everybody seems to want something else from a VJ software, can't really compare it to turntables, everybody seems to agree on what they should do at least.

theres a very good table chart for vj software's Astrix made.
u should find the link on the forums [search]
there - u could see what's ppl feel is important for them in a vj app,
but the best advise u got from R.funk - give some demo's a try.

And what is wrong with basic?

MDT is a useful programme, works quite reliably, is cross-platform, and has a simple intuitive interface. It seems to have an infinite capacity for loops and files, and you can programme it to run a macro sequence of effects when you need to take a break.

I personally can't stand the Resolume interface, but that's the crux of the matter, it is a personal choice......

....diferent strokes for different folks.

As others have said, try out different solutions, and find the one that suits YOU.

robotfunk's right on the money. switch it up a bit, play around with everything you can, then decide.

having said that, i love res but wouldn't bother with MDT at all. although right now all my attentions are diverted to VDMX. it's nice to have a whole bunch of tricks up your sleeve, so you can pull out different stuff for when you have different shoes to fill.

MDT via Hex patch with delays works wonderfully,...
The most important thing is content, take time to make your loops.
I always been into straight cutting on the beat, either on Umatic, vhs,
final cut pro, now on MDT for me it's crucial to Nail that BEAT.
Put a track take some old vhs and a mixer or take your DV cam just with tapes, go to a gig and play with ff or rw + trail, you'll be surprised of the results.
You could have the most inovative software if you don't have rythm and content YOU no-where.
