It is not the simple task to get multiple cameras to Modul8(or any other VJ app). Live input takes resources of you computer. 4 cameras is more or less job for macpro with multiple pro capture cards....

The only officially suggested codec is Apple PhotoJPG at 65-85% quality. Try that. But your new mac should play ProRes422 too. Stay away codec that has PAL/NTSC in it. These are TV(tube) properties...

Not sure about PhotoJPG. But clips with alpha sure - much better and smaller file size than PNG.
And I am not testing Modul8 that much any longer. I have given up on it pretty much.

Just get larger drive to accommodate. DXV runs wonders with Resolume specially if you have alpha channel too. It is specially developed to accelerate in Res - thus the larger size.

Modul8 can play every codec you have in Quicktime but for many reasons...
