We will be promoting a techno night this month, but are going to be producing visuals for the first time. Ideally we would prefer to have a dedicated VJ, but seems unlikley this time round.
Essentially, I would like to find a high quality visualiser that is automated to a sound input with the option to fire off logos/text etc. Any suggestions of software would be grately appreciated. Thanks, Fenn.

As it seems now its cheaper to buy more projektors and figure out a way to layer things and mixing it like that, but it cant be right can it ?

And no the edirol v4 including decent converters is still a way to expensive option.

A college and I got the pleasant task of putting together a studio for a new audiovisual education at a Swedish university. We have a fairly large budget but the money has to be spent wisely. We need recommendations on a few things:

1. Projectors. We need something midrange yet flexible. These are for mostly for classroom/lab experiments with triple screen content, mapping experiments, back projections etc but they will also be used for smaller gigs and exhibitions. When they do anything big they will rent projectors. They just bought one 5000 Ansi projector for about €7500 which they thought was rather expensive. I would still suggest something between 3000-5000 Ansi for the lab. Barco, Christie and Sanyo makes good projectors, right? What brands do you guys suggest and do we need to get extra lenses as well? We need good bang for the buck. And recommendation around Ansi. I know much higher Ansi values are recommended but projectors gets really really expensive above 5000 ansi.

2. Preview monitors. The Numark VM-03 MK II is a practical setup (3 monitors in one unit) but they don't seem to make them anymore (some claim to still have them in stock however). Is there another similar solution or any other recommendation for preview monitors? I assume that the Numark ain't that great for HD either.

3. Graphic cards. If we would stuff a Mac Pro with some extra graphic cards, which ones would be the best bang for the buck? The point is to get more outputs than a Macbook so we could really stuff this sucker with as many as possible. I'm also thinking at Black Magic card for captures. Are there any issues with mixing graphic cards (like say 4 cheaper ones for output and 1 Black Magic for input/output)?

I currently have an Infocus x2 which has been good, but I'm looking to upgrade at this point. I'd like to go at least 720p. My current set up is using vcrs, dvd players and my lappy (only for video source at this time), I then run those through a V4 and then an entrancer.

Most of my gigs are indoors but I would like the option of projecting in tha nature as well.

My range is up to about $700ish.

Any and all suggestions/recommendations are appreciated.

hi all, i have been using VDMX for about a year now. when i first started out i only had 30-40 clips, and now i have about 2500 (and counting). VDMX really doesn't like the load of clips i import into it when i do a show where i need ALL My clips. when i load in that many, it drags, big time- i can't really scroll through the media library without it stopping the clip. often time i get a warning about RAM use, and i can't use any sort of program (like a bittorrent downloader or Itunes even) while i am working, which can limit me in the future. also, forget about pre-rolling. not possible even in the slightest.
i had just grown to really love VDMX because of the media library, and because i felt that it could handle all of my clips. but as my library grows it seems it works less and less well. also, i rather like the media-bay idea of GrandVJ and NuVJ. if i have a clip that is way down at the bottom of the page instead of going back and forth i can just drop it into the bay.
now, is it possible to customize the VDMX media library wherein you don't have to load your media, but it just works with your browser on your 'puter? if not, is there any way i can avoid this drag and RAM suckage? and if any of you have any reccomendations for new programs to try i am all ears. thanks guys.
