Hi All,
i?va got a question about an Effect i just know from Photography.
If you go to a street at night and photograph car lights with a long exposure time you?ll get this effect of light Distortion.
I think it would be possible with After Effects. Digital Cameras have this effect and i guess it should be possible after capturing because i only have an analog camera with time lapse feature.
Does anybody know how to do this ?
thx for reply

I don't know how it works, but you can look at a wonderful example here: www.flashmixer.de
there you can Download the moviepacs from the framefarmers, and one of them is called : "Lichterfahrt_alpha".
Just click on Filesharing and Download the moviepacks for the flashmixer.

thx aether but i?m looking for a movie-solution - perhaps for after effects or else ...
the effect should calculate the brightest level of a frame and distort the hole composition with this level.
Possibly there could be a way of setting some kind of an exposure time to a movie ...
but how ?

try the digifects "Delirium" pack if you can find it. it's a must have and it's got the effect your are looking for + the echo time effect from the standard pack. that should get you on the way if you use the two

I am not sure if it's exactly the effect you are searching for but you should try to use the "Retina Killer" effect from Pdoom's package for visualJockey. This effect let you set two controlling parameters Resistance and Repair, and at each frame it will keep the brightest pixels from the previous frame according to the Resistance value (like a treshold) and will repair some of the older pixels (from previous frames) according to the Reapir value.
Pdoom's package is free, you'll find the Retina Killer effect in his "filter" folder. There also is a free demo of visualJockey if you just want to try it and verify that it's doing what you are searching for. Finally, if it's not important to make it work in real-time, remember that you can render movies (AVI) with vJo so you can use the result in any other VJ app.

I've used the echo plugin in afterfx, its comes standard i think(its in premiere as well) mess around with the number of repeats and use add as the composition type. Only problem is because the image is made from descrete frames, they dont blur together, you need something like Re:vision Motion blur to blend the frames together! Hope this helps!
