I am looking for a matrix router/switcher that will let me take up to 6 signals (composite) in and out. I want the ability to route the signals to anyone (or all) of the outputs. Any suggestions?
thanks

I have an 8x8 matrix switcher from Kramer. If not connected to genlocked sources not quite glitchfree, but still OK switches.
Homepage:Kramer Electronics (http://www.kramerelectronics.com/)
They have a pretty huge collection so have a look.
(ps: I'm in no way affiliated to them, there are other suggestions for sure)

I've always been a fan of the stuff by Kramer Electronics: http://www.kramerelectronics.com/
It looks like they have a few 6 in / 6 out models, such as the VS-606xl:

ps. looks like someone else posted about them at the same time!! damn you dan and your machine, you are too fast!!!

I got a couple of those Extron 50's. They seem decent. They are really fun when you utilze the rs232 port in your favorite VJ app, then you can create cool funky switching patterns.

Hehehe ;)
I forgot to tell that almost all Kramer-machines are rs232-controllable, which is very handy. They deliver simple software to do that but I had an app written for me which made it possible to use MIDI to control my lil' Kramer. Realtime sequencing!
ps: dan's machine LOL
dansmachine as in dancemachine, dutch though.

I just finished a rs232 plugin for visualJockey that allows the user to create sequence lists of strings to send via rs232. I am using it to control switching patterns of the Extron Matrix 50. It should work with any rs232 controllable Matrix device.
I realize that not many people use vJo, but it just seemed fitting that I should include this info here,

This is great news murk.
This means another app has support for:
PTZ Cameras
Matrix Switchers
Control of Scan Converters
Interface to odd controllers (gfx tablets, keypads, etc.)
The above supposes that your plugin supports:
2 way communication
Initialisation of devices a according to a script
Thank you for your work...
Today is the first day I've wanted to have vJo.

so does that mean you can use for example a midicontroller that is sending messages to vjo to control an rs232 device ?

Well, currently the RS-232 plugin only sends strings out a COM port. It does not read data from it.
The variables I have so far are:
Send Next String
Send Previous String
Send Current String
Send Random String
Jump to item #1
Jump to item #2
Jump to item #3
Jump to item #4
Jump to item #nnn
...
You can bind any of these parameters to MIDI, or keyboard, or Bass Beat or whatever.
Here is a snapshot of the plugin in action (used to control an Extron Matrix 50)

Hey!
Is that the rumoured QT-plug I see over there?
Hmmmmmm......
When-o-when will you release it? Is it actually finished? How about flash-support? Well you know the questions (all been asked before).
Hope to hear some,

Hmmmm anyone know of anything doing 6x6 or 8x8 in a 1u unit? For a good cheap price, been needing one for years but making do with other solutions or cludging it through

there were cheap diy kits, rs232 controlable i believe standard/cheap 1X16....
almost all matrix switchers i know nowadays have rs232 control options.
many kvm matrices are being dumped by media houses etc. so a lot of good buys on ebay.
for example; bought a 25X25 (sun or sgi)kvm switcher on ebay for less than 200 euro!!
mainly because of the odd connectors, great bargain
for example: on ebay (US) http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=3319&item=7504842347&rd=1
pretty sure this will go for very little...... (very little for what you get that is)
