Media Player usage w/ outside music?

Hi all,

I want to use my laptop, with Media Player, for Vj automatically at my party. And I likr one of it's visualizations. In my party I have a DJ that comes with his non-computer eqipment. Is there any plug in I can use so the media player will get music from the line-in plug in the sound card and use it for it's visualizations, instead of the actual music?

I don't know about windows media player but winamp (www.winamp.com) has a "line in" feature. I think you can set it up by using linein:// (or line:// or something like this) for the "location" URL, it's probably explained somewhere on the documentation or website. Winamp also comes with much better visuals than WMP and you can download lots of plugins from the website. If you download Winamp I suggest you get the version 2, the new version 3 is still a bit buggy and very slow.

By the way I'm not sure if you are aware but there is a lot of other softwares to create visuals, some of them give you more freedom in what you want to display. Have a look at the VJCentral software reviews (www.vjcentral.com/software/), maybe there is something which will interest you.
