VCD to Avi convertion

i want to convert VCD files to avi or mpeg!
I want to capture some scenes from a movie that some friends made!
IS there any converter or some else???
I want to re-edit the scenes in PREMIER!
i'd like some help please:help:

vcd is mpeg1 you can convert it to avi with virtual dub (open the mpegav folder on the vcd and copy the .dat files - rename them to be .mpeg and they'll load into virtualdub - they might even load directly into premiere although premiere isn't very good with mpeg files)

I have version 1 which was free -(and I believe still is) and allows you to convert the .dat to an .avi

Its been upgraded now to version 2 which has a lot more functionality.... and you have to pay for - but version 1 still looks downloadable for free.
