Calling all VJs in London...
I'm a member of a great, original rock band based in London, UK.
We regularly perform gigs at top venues around London, have just completed the recording of our debut album and are pushing for a contract this year.
One of the things we have discussed is some more imaginative visual effects at gigs - usually you just make do with some third rate disco lighting rig at the venue.
I know absolutely nothing about VJing, so maybe this is a stupid request. However, what are the possibilities for teaming up with a VJ and running a combined set? Pink Floyd are one of our huge influences, so you can see where we're coming from.
Without a team of roadies etc. it's impossible for us to manage more than just our instruments and audio FX, so it would be an interesting experiment to team up with a VJ who can totally run that side of the show.
We could also get some good cross-over crowds to gigs who you wouldn't normally find at the average rock or VJ gig.
Perhaps this is totally unreaslistic and you need a venue dedicated to VJ needs. Anyway, some feedback would be great.
You can check out our stuff on www.kingrat.net. A lot of it is quite rock/pop, but we could compose collaborative material that is potentially easier to VJ to.
Who knows?!

Excellent - glad to hear it's not a stupid request!
So do most VJs bring their own projection equipment and screens?
To any interested VJs: if you have listened to any of our audio clips online and are interested in collaborating, I can send you a copy of our album.
And watch this space - there's a chance we're playing Reading Festival this year.

im doing visuals for a band in adelaide, and i find doing visuals for bands more fun then at a club. depending on the VJ they might have there own projector and screen, so you would then have to pay them for the hire of there equipment as well. if they dont have them, you would have to pay them the money to hire what they think would fit the gig best.

and obviously there would be alot of video clips needed to be made before the shows, so that would take some time to get all that together.

I'm sure it would be no problem getting hold of the equipment. We are looking for someone who would be willing to work with an unsigned band to create a show. We usually cover our costs at gigs but we do it because we love it, and I presume there are enough VJs out there coming from the same angle. We are, of course, going to sign a record deal this year, however....
Anyway - would be good to hear from someone in London who's interested. Where are all these London VJs? Surely someone out there is keen to show the world that the new music scene can do better than Franz Ferdinand.
