New weekly VJ event in the Mid West

On the heels of a successful Vj gathering at Rodan in Chicago, the Necto Nightclub in Ann Arbor Michigan is excited to announce a new weekly event to showcase the best in moving visual art in the Mid West. Every Sunday, beginning January 16th, 2 to 4 new artists will have the opportunity to showcase their visual media alongside Techno legend Juan Atkins and other well-known artists.

The purposes of these events are to raise awareness of what we as artists do and how we do it. Be it laptop, DVDs, or film, as long as it moves and is projected IT GOES. The artists will be in full view of the public and will be able to answer questions and converse the other performers.

This is being set up grassroots and will be smaller in scale as we begin. However as the night grows, we hope that the public will take notice and expand interest in our medium, eventually becoming a draw in itself.

Well, Im still in the process of setting it up. You are the first one from around this area to respond and it looks like you are the 1st invite. I would like to get at least one other, I think 3 to 4 is the right amount.

Right now, Im not sure if it is going to be a mash up event with everyones content mixed together, or if we are going to do hour sets, or if we want to all be running at the same time.

I might be coming into a few new projectors so the latter might be an option.

I think that this Sunday we might not do it. I really want to have enough awareness of the thing before we kick it off. But next week we will be ricking out for sure.

If you want to help set it up with me it would be very cool.

I'd like to make the journey over eventually. (and my brother is in AA)
however, sundays simply don't work for me..at least during the school year. once school gets out (in June!) I'll likely make a trip.

Hey CA!! This sounds great! I'm Lev's brother. I sorta fell out of the scene when I moved back to AA from Chicago (birth of daughter, new career, blah, blah, blah), but would really love to worm VJing back into my life again. This may be just what I'm looking for! Hopefully I can make it over to the Necto when you get this up a running. Since I fell out of the scene about 2 yrs ago, I'm not at a point with content where I can necessarily do a set (everything I have is shit). But this is probably just the motivation I need to get back on track.

I am starting to get some more responses but I dont think that we will be able to get it going by this sunday. I think that we are going to set it up so that the 1st night is on the 30th. This will give the dj aspect part of the night time to build up and give us vjs time to plan some really cool shit. Hope your vacation goes well. Ill talk to you when you get back.

no, holland wasn't there..he was supposed to come but he crippled his ride in a temporary fit of non-yooper driving skills and was unable to secure alternative transport.

yeah, that pretty much sums it up. car vs. curb. in the end one of the rear wheels was angled out about 15 degrees. it was interesting to drive. Car kept wanting to go in 2 directions at once. Totally bummed that I ended up missing Rhodan. I was looking forward to it for months.

Don't think i can make it to the club this saturday (22nd), CA, but possibly next weekend. is it looking like the 30th is gonna fly?

Deon - you going to be able to make it on the 30th if CA can pull it together?
