Does anyone know of a program to convert .mpa files to any format that can be taken into adobes programs or virtualdub? pref. to avi, but mpg etc. would be fine too.

I've just had a go, and you can load in a .mpa and export it as an avi in QuickTime Pro. I've been surprised by how versatile QTPro is, it's a real workhorse app for me now, well worth getting.

Cheers pete, as soon I can get the cash together I'll get a copy.
In the meantime if anyone knows of a freeware piece please let me know. QTPro is not much but I'm skint right now.

WTF is .mpa??
if its an mpeg file then just rename it (using windows explorer or a program like therename) to .mpeg - you will then be able to import it into any program that can handle mpeg

if .mpa is not a kind of mpeg then ignore this post

Yeah .mpa files are usually MPEG's, I think that Internet Explorer is sometimes renaming them like this when they are downloaded from the Internet (??)

Yeah, .mpa is mpeg audio.
But I tried to rename to .mpg, and it wouldn't load into premiere.
I can't find any settings on internet explorer to stop it from saving mpeg files as .mpa though.

Dunno exactly what is happening there.

I've just tried and VirtualDub seems quite happy loading and saving the .mpa's I have. What errors do you get if you load your files into VD?

allmost all dodgy MPEGs can be fixed using the MPEGtools part of TMPGenc (http://www.tmpgenc.net/e_main.html) genraly without having to recompress.

Premiere is very bad at using mpeg source files your better off converting them to avi to edit in premiere - or using ulead or vegas video both of which can edit mpeg well.

Erm.. I swear I already tried this, but just did it again and it worked fine.
I think maybe I didn't actually try loading it in as VD does not list mpa as as supported file format.

Thanks for your help
