I'm looking for a tool which is able to convert a number of avi's with different codec to a specific codec
or a tool wich shows me all video files and the codec of this file of one folder

i've heared that batch conversion should be possible with virtual dub but i did'nt find out how to configure it proper.

You'll be wanting the virualdub batch assistant that sleepytom posted about a little while ago.

You can get it here:

http://www.brightonart.org/VDubBatchAssistant.shtml

It's really simple to use - just followthe instructions in the text file and you'll be doing long batch jobs in no time.

Thanks to the people who created this (and to Coldcut for sponsoring it) - Its a really useful little add on for virtualdub

Yep, Virtualdub is great for batch operations on AVIs. The job files for the batch operations are plain text, so you can easily modify them. I wrote a little VB script that generates Virtualdub job files based on the file contents of a directory. I used this to trim off the first 5 seconds off 200 AVIs and also crop them.

Hi tcut,
premiere and aFX also offers a batch function to convert your clips
in any codec you may have installed. Vdub is also pretty nice just as said befor.

cheers
