I might not be able to make it in 5 Min. I think my setup is still at the 1 min marker:D

Well personally I wouldnt exclude any length, short or long, 5 mins was just a vague guide to try not to make people feel intimidated at the idea of having to produce anything really long.
By the way anybody got a link to that video of (i think) Matt Black showing the (old?) rig? That was my inspiration for this idea, as I thought it was great.

I've put yes for free, but that is for a friendly vj orientated interweb type thingy (much like the elb-o-vision ;) u've been thinking about ), but if it was for some corporate / full walleted / etc, then i'd probably charge for production time etc.

yeah same here
also the tempororay condition that I have to wait until my new studio is done so I have room to set the whole bit up...in all of its rats-nest-o-wires glory...

yes been meaning to do this for ages now anyway, I'll probably get round to it in the new year when we have some studio time to setup all the gear.
payment of some kind would enable this to happen sooner (need to hire a room big enough to fit it all in!)
having edited matt's set rundown i can really recommend that you write a script of some kind before you start filming - the spontaneous stream of consciousness approach is really hard work when it comes to the edit!
if you've not seen it matt's video is here (http://www.piratetv.net/links/mattsetrundown.ram)

What is the goal of this Elbows? To make educational VJ content for the web?

i was the one that voted for the money option cose i didnt get the point of it ...
that is the inportant question .. what is it for ?
when i saw the cold cut video ... i think ,,, ohh .. if its this , of corse i would do it for free ... i was thinking in a way more pruduce movie ... with comercial target ... cose there is the money option .

Well personally I was thinking of free internet educational video, or the vj magazine dvd. I included the money option because I wanted to see if there are people who would like to do this, but wouldnt do it unless at least their time was compensated for.
I dont have a commercial idea that would provide money to this cause, and frankly I prefer to think about non-commercial things, but I didnt want to exclude anybody or any ideas.
If it had turned out that money was THE big problem, then I would then try to think of ways to compensate people financially, but in the past I didnt get any further than "donate the money myself", and I cant actually afford to do that right now lol.
Anyway its early days really, Im just very curious about this stuff, and what other servies/facilities people would need to actually do these videos. There is no "plan" yet, I do not have any secret ideas or missions, there are a variety of things I could do, but I want to concentrate on helping to fill the gaps that put people off using internet video so far.

Hi all,
Just to say, as a new VJ using my university's equipment, I would find it incredibly helpful to see more setup's like coldcut's. This is because I'm saving to get all of my own equipment and would really benefit from seeing the different options and techniques that Vj's use.
This way I won't waste any time or money buying the wrong things.
Cheers

Yes, this sounds doable. My own rig is a bit of a pain to set up - I bring collapsable scaffolding with me, setting the beamers up there. A fold out table handles the gear. I find that a hefty scaffolding places the projectors in a relatively secure place, above people's heads, where, hopefully, drinks and other such destructors won't find their way. My favorite rig, though, is for out door festivals, with the "easy up" canopy tent and the whole shooting match. I like to keep gear to a minimum, but it still takes at least a half hour to an hour to properly set up (AND break down!).

neoteo : you are so funny . poor little buggers , i think you're working them too hard , and now that guys got no head , and i'm going to have night-mares .
about this thread : did you mean a work set-up at a gig with projectors screens , mixers , DAs , running video line and all that or like the home set-up and how to make images , programs , rendering gear , what kind of computer i use , and all that kinDA JAZZ ?
either way it could be a fun project , you could edit everyone's responce together and make a how to VJ video , from the minds that do it , in a step by step style DVD .

Why not something truly interesting.
I'd rather see how quickly you can assemble your rig - get real ARMY style slot your gun together quick. That'd impress me :)

no cam or gig at present but i will keep this idea in mind next time i set up.
but how long does it take you to set up?
usuall i allow 1.5 hours to go from arriving at club to being fully set up.
fastest is about 40mins.
longest is probably a 4hour setup - but that was at a huge outdoor festival thingy so it was more complex than usual etc...

Excluding carrying all the shit inside - I could probably get a good setup down pat to 8 mins. Thats two computers - two dvd players, video mixer, line to dj booth plus power & cable tieing, preview monitor and line to projector.
Projectors depend on the gig - out of the back of my car its no problemo for outdoor gigs :) Roof racks are great!
Its transport too and from that fks me.
I can load all my gear (including lights, parts drawers, deco, projectors and computers) into my car in about 12 mins now (which is pretty good considering the nightmare it used to be - box's of shit everywhere).

I thought I'd own this one, but then I remembered the powerbook VJs like spark! Maybe I'd own the "uses a real mixer, dvds, and fx" category...

Sorry I didnt follow up video ideas yet, Ive not been having a very useful year so far, let evrything get to me a bit too much and had to take a big rest to recover a positive mood.
Anyway Im starting to feel better now and I have been keeping up with technological developments this year, just not actually done anything useful with the new knowledge yet.
Really any videos are better than none, so even really short few minute vids of people briefly showing us their rigs would be a great start.
I'll start pieceing together the various technology ideas for how best to handle community video clips, it is of course up tot he community how they want to handle hosting and integration with vjcentral or whatever. I can probably help, but I better take things slowly so that I dont overload myself again, so I make no promises at this monent.
