Hey everyone, i just wanted to let everyone know how well things are going over here with AVIT micro events. In a few words AVIT venues are helping very very much to help the local vjing scene grow and to make the vjing artform known.

This 3rd event was very special because of the delightful visit of the brazilian vj Beterum V7. Her Audiovisual set was full of very colourful imagery, all video with little noticeable postproduction. I was amazed at seeing a vj perform... with no monitor!!! Just a computer, a keyboard and a mixer. She remembered all clips set to different keys on her keyboard by hard. Respect.

I missed Akira's 8GB set because i was performing myself upstairs. I heard a cheerful applause when he ended so I presume it was good! I enjoyed an awful lot my first performance on an AVIT party. I veejayed using neuromixer to the minimal house beats of my cousin, dj chiken. Learned a lot, loved the experience.

One of the sponsors lent us a 20 inch iMac G4. Akira created a PixelShox patch where people would change the speed of a clip and mix it with another one with a mouse. They could also see themselves on the screen through a live camera. It was a sort of fast an introductory vjing experince for the general public and everyone who tried it loved it.

Theses AVIT parties are prooving to be a great venue for local vj's to meet up and see what everyone else is up to. They are also helping to raise vjing awareness and exposing people to different expressions of the vjing art. This last venue was mentioned on the 2nd largest newspaper last friday.

Vjing over here is growing fast, a good example is that vj's were included on the last local Creamfields lineup.

Please excuse my poor english and I hope this helps to encourage the expansion of AVIT venues all over the world.

We have missed the report of the second event (because teh space between AV2 and AV3 was just of two and a half weeks), which I will post later, but is this the right place to post this or should it go in Gig Reports? I for one am happy of having them all here (mods, let me know)

Anyway, we've got pictures, video and all, here's waiting for the AVIT server to be back up to scratch or something.

The event went pretty smooth and we got quite a bunch of public for what uses to be a friday night in the Cocoliche venue.
Our A/V set started a bit later than planned but went pretty smooth. Our migration from arkaos to modul8 has been completed and by god I'm glad about that, because this one doesn't have the problems arkaos had, latency is very low, and wuality of composition is top notch. A couple of reknowned local musicians that were around were impressed at the possibilities of an A/V set. They couldn't believe it was all done live.

I couldn't se much of jaqx+chicken's set since it ended early, about the same time I finished my set.

Beterum VJ7's visual set (audiovisual jaqx? it was just video :P) was cool, she's a top-notch girl and her work is pretty interesting, lots of excellent images of her country mixed up with a bunch of demented cartoons n shit. She is teh first link we have completed with the brazilian VJ community, we'll be doing lots of stuff together with them.

Thanks to everyone involved, and we'll see you again in A/V v4.0 (which should be around 20th December). We might also have another event that will raise the public awareness of the AVIT project, I'll keep everyone posted.

oi betanaut!

thank you for the article, shame indeed that clubs were closed for the 1st third of the year. things are beginning to change, governmet is controlling that clubs comply with tight security regulations

on some clubs you even get an instructional video on what to do in case of emergency (as in airplanes)

i want to clarify that i was the one interviewed by La Nacion newspaper and that i said "la movida" (the scene) was stronger here that in brasil

i would like to publicly admitt that that is utter bollocks and that i was interviewed on the phone at work, so i basically mumbled a few sentences about vjing in latin america not thinking too much about what i was saying

After browsing rraurl.com i can see that "la movida" is as strong in Brazil as it is over here. and that we should have one of this events in brasil as well.

probably it could be integrated with the upcoming Sao Paulo Sonar festival?

One more thing...

Do you know whose computer is the one with gephex compiled for Mac OS X? I would love to try this soft out on my mac but it is so awfully difficult to compile it and get it to work!http://www.rraurl.com/cena/images/ft_gephex.jpg

hey jaqx,
evrthing fine? hope all is well

nevermind the movida thing in the newspaper. we know how the news are made, not? and nobody got offended with that comment

buenos aires is a great city, and has good artists, djs, vjs etc. i had the honour of presenting at skol beats, here in sao paulo, and listening to hernan cattaneo, it was good, and knowing spitfire... well

hope the club things get resolved soon,
wish you the best

regardin gephex, i can put you in touch with some people

vjing is not about dispute, it?s about mixing.

Hi Jaqx,

the gephex on mac os x screenshot is from georg. There is a ongoing discussion on the gephex-user mailing list about the os x port.

Hi all,

I agree with Jaqx that gephex is too difficult to compile on Mac OS X.

I created an experimental binary package for fink, see
http://lists.gephex.org/pipermail/gephex-user/2005-May/000507.html

You still need to install fink first, but after
that a simple dpkg command should be enough to install gephex.

Hope this works for you,

Georg

Try to keep gephex-relatd topics onto gephex-related threads, thank you.
