I was wondering is any budding clip authors has created any clips with tessellation/tiling quailties. You know so they can be perfectly tiled if they are put in a disaplayed in a grid (like windows wallpaper were you can get a bmp and tile it across the entire screen, etc.

I know and use some designs that do nice static textures but I am wondering if anyone has done moving pictures of this techinque.

I have done some but as realtime OpenGL swirlies which I then map onto 3d Object, tunnels, etc.

I was wondering if anyone had made any of these and if possible have a look at them.

I think googling for ANIMATED SEEMLESS TEXTURES would be a start, but I guess you probably did that already and it's not really VJ enough....

I use a lot of tiling textures and animated tiling textures in my work. To create them there are many ways :

--> you can simply create non-animated tiles and animate them, mix them, key them (always with other tiling texture) and render the result. If all your content is tiling then you should have no problem creating this.

--> you can apply your texture on a 3d model (like a deformed plane for example) and animate both the model and the texture coordinates. Tiling models are cool too.

--> another very cool trick I love is a tool from my friend Josua (one of the vJo programmers) who designed a simple tool to create procedural textures tiling in 3d : if you put it on a cube it will tile on each and every side perfectly.

I love the concept of tiling, with a little work you can create something that tiles seamlessly in all dimension, even in time !

I probably didn't expalin myself very well but here are some examples of stuff.

Recorded by crappy fraps opengl/dx recorder to record teh clip from the realtime stuff and only in like 25fps (instead of 75) and a tiny window so not a nice example of the work but hopefully you get the idea.

Orginal animation with tiling quailites:

Multiple copies on a 3d plane

Multiple copies on a simple tunnel

anyone got any more examples.

what codec did you use for the AVIs ?

Rovastar

oh crap sorry I recorded it with fraps with whatever there default codec was. www.fraps.com#

Edit: It appears that that software now has it own codec built it. FPS1. ffs

Downloading fraps right now and I'll then take a look at the clips. I do not publish any clips online, would you mind exchanging stuff privately if I have something you'd like ?

Rova, I didn?t download FPS1 codec yet, so I haven?t been able to see your samples either... but if I?m interpreting you well, are these below similar to what you are trying to achieve?

Sample1 (http://www.heroglyph.de/cms-gfx/vorlagen-i00000241m7u4.asf), Sample2 (http://www.heroglyph.de/cms-gfx/vorlagen-i00000243m7u4.asf), Sample3 (http://www.heroglyph.de/cms-gfx/vorlagen-i00000253m7u4.asf).

P.S. Wondering what crazy marvels Manitou is trying to hide privately away from our eager sight... :P

No mate that is nothing like what I am talking about.

I hate codecs.

I'll try and get a another version up tomorrow but for tonight

http://www.shineout.com/display/ani_tiles/atiles001.htm

is a very basic example of a animated seamless texture.

I am talking about bigger 512x512 + and proper animations.

Well, I know that vJo has the 'texturizer'(part of the advanced pack) plugin which makes any input into a tilable texture. I have checked it out on occasion, but never felt compelled to use it for anything. The results look very much like your samples.

petewarden also has the 'Tile' plugin.

It also seems like you could accomplish this with a simple 'Symmetry' effect.

Rova, we are talking about the same thing :)
What are you searching for ? A particular texture or generic stuff ?

Ahhh pity Rova, I thought you were looking for VideoMosaics or something like that, you know; those when a bigger image/video is comprised of others tiny visuals allowing a likeness to be formed from other different or unrelated images/videos inside.

http://www.apress.ru/pages/bg/grafika/gund01_sm.jpg Kinda like this (http://www.apress.ru/pages/bg/hires/gund01.jpg) or using these technics. (http://www.doubletakeimages.com/murals.htm)

But I guess Texture Maker (http://www.texturemaker.com/) or DogWaffle Textrix function (http://www.thebest3d.com/dogwaffle/tuts/Textrix/index.html) or KPT plugins series is in fact what you are looking for. ;)

Ohhhh well, maybe sometime soon hehehe. :yep:

I think I get it.
You mean an image (pattern) that - if the same image were tiled next to it - would seemlessly sit next to itself?? Kind of like a kaliedascopic effect?

I have a great series of 'unique' kaliedascopes (nothing like it out there guaranteed :) if you'd like a peek?

Yeah that is more like it. :) Many2 gets the idea too.

I just wondered if people had created stuff like this and what itw as I can do it myseklf realtime for the orginal clip (although) it can be a pain.

Not really searching as per sa. Hence creating content but I wouldn't mind seeing what other have done. And findout how they created them.

I suppose for clip they will have to loop as well as being seemless animated textures as all mine is realtime that is not an issue for my stuff.

Here are some pics.

Other mods

I've uploaded more examples recorded with no codec but tiny and sadly still only 30fps and no sound.

If anyone has any for me they don't want to share on the forum could you PM a link to me or email me.

Using software like after effects. Create a compositon 2x's the size of the original video source.

Align it to a corner.
http://www.dis-assembly.com/tc448/1.gif

Then duplicate and flip

http://www.dis-assembly.com/tc448/2.gif

Repeat

http://www.dis-assembly.com/tc448/3.gif

There's your tile.

Export video.

Reimport and manipulate as long as you don't disturb the edges it will tile seamlessly.

Actually I am aware of taht method I know you can do that I have done a tiling overlay for R4 that process automatically for the scenes. But it is a useful process.

I was wondering if anyone had made clips without that method like using multiple images liek my examples.
