Hi! Since a few of us didn't get to attend AVIT, I was hoping maybe someone who was there would share any vibes, tricks, knowledge from the seminars. It doesn't matter how brief. Did you learn anything, or have suggestions for the organizers maybe?

Thanks!

I missed alot of the workshop, due to being late leaving brum, and stuck in the loop for 30mins, but the workshops gave a brief show of the software available (I missed the hardware section), as well as the launch of two pieces (sorry. I missed this bit as well trying to get some BNC-Phono adaptors).
There were some talks - I only heard the history of VJing one, which was well done, and interesting despite the fact that I knew and had seen most of what was said.

Sorry, Holly, I know this will not enlighten you particuarly, and since I've volunteered to do press elsewhere for the next AVIT, its not exactly a good example of what I can do. No notepads, so no notes for this event. All in my memory i'm afraid.

right i didnt organise this side of things, chears toby, but came up with the idea behind how it was run based upon how i saw the conferance side of things run at vj net, basicly i whanted a space ware people from the vj world etc and mambers of the audiance could get into an organic conversation about various aspects of this industriey that we work within, the host that we had was superb, thanks jj (i think that was your name , sorry if i'm being dim and thats not your name) you did a grate job dispite my own nervourses at publick speeking and to little sleep :)
i'm sitting down with some people in the next few days who saw most of the conferance side and coalating what they saw so i'm afraid your going to have to waight for some real answers, but some of us have been working on this for months and are just trying to clean up the finel details before we can then coalate the things we have lernt from this grate event.

Basically three talks were given after the workshops and open discussion sessions to try and summarise the day.

Michael Heap gave a talk about about the history of Vjing from ebn and steinski [i think] others like coldcut. Most looking at the politcal cut up style of work.

Mr kriel gave us a bit of a chat informing us of how he got into being bbc vj. Quite lucky me thinks, and he talked about commercialisation as a route to the success of video artists, you know bums on seats and consumer purchasing power.

Also Vj Anyone gave a bit of a talk on defining the term Vj in contrast the the dj judging them on equal criterias. The conclusion was basically everyone is eiffernet and approaches the job differnetly and therefore can be attributed different tags.
Also a bit of a look at his intent behind The Vectors setup in London - it being vj centric and all that.

Hope this helps, more organised accounts on their way.
