make some VHS tapes of material, rent a mixer and projector for performances. Buy a mixer ASAP when you can afford it, then buy a projector. If you're making CG stuff from your computer, get a scan converter to output your creations to video.

When you've got the basic kit, make short demos on VHS and spread them about. You will only get gigs once people have seen your work, so its a good move to strike up a conversation with VJs at clubs you go to. Don't, though, disturb them whilst they are working! You should find that most VJs are happy to chat about their work!! Above all try and avoid the glaringly obvious cliches found in VJing! Go to as many events as you can and you will soon spot them! Its my opinion that you will sicceed quicker if your work is self-created - this requires hard work and determination, if its possible, enrol on a part-time couse in Video/film making, this will help by-pass the many pitfalls ahead of you and should pay for itself manyfold in the future. Good luck!

in my opinion, you don?t need more then a f****** FREE flash mixer, convert anything that YOU think it?s cool into flash and start mixing. Therefor you don?t need more than an pc, some cables and a beamer...
we started a year ago and we mixed for artists like Westbam, Coder23(Front 242 dj set) and Montell Jordan...

All you need is a couple winamp plugins and a $8,000 projector right?
