just came across this:
http://irrlicht.sourceforge.net/
It's a new free open source c++ 3d library that makes use of both OpenGL and Direct3D for acceleration.
Looks really interesting - loads of neat features already built in and very active development from the look of it.

the thing that appeals to me about irrlicht and ogre is that they support both openGL and direct3D renderers - in theory they make it easy to take advantage of either standard.
I'm not really interested in making games - other applications of this sort of easy to use library excite me a lot more.

i thnk ogre has a better design philosophy, especially in context of using it in a non game app like a VJ app.. i have been pursueing the options of these engines myself.

yeah, after a bit of API-spec reading, ogre looks much more solid and well developed.
It supports render to texture as well, so building a chain-based app would be nice and easy.
Too many fun things to play with nowerdays... ;)

i know, so many things, i try and wait sometimes so i don't waste so much time.. but yeah a nice 3d engine with exporters from MAx, solid design etc seems like a good basis to build a VJ app on,
though currently i'm very interested in Salvation.

Hello, people.
You wroted about Ogre 2 years before (2004).
And now? what about use Ogre for VJ softwares dev?
Do you think it would be a good idea?
Is it easy to port to Linux and Mac?
Thanks.
