That's funny, I only get annoyed by the ones that do post. Doesn't bother me if people are just lurking about. Don't hurt me none. I'd rather know they're out there and registered, then have them just popping in as a guest.

I'll have to agree with KF on that one. Who knows what masterfully crafty VJs are just lurking in shadows, waiting for us to say something worth responding to...

I know a lot of the folks registered here don't speak english so well, and I'd guess that's a barrier to a lot of people posting. Others are just selfish and would rather "leech", and that bothers me. I wish languages weren't such a barrier, I think translation problems accross countries and especially cultures cause a lot of the problems on our planet.

Although I agree with you, I also think that different languages are the key to the variety that exists across the globe. Not wanting to get too philosophical on you, but we cannot (in my opinion) think outside of the concepts contained in the language we speak - different languages have different concepts which may not be in all of them (such as zeitgeist ) which do not translate perfectly.
For instance, one of my friends is completely bilingual french/english, and when she speaks to her sister, their conversation changes almost word to word between french and english depending which language has the best word to convey the meaning she wants.
Translation causes problems, yes, but without different languages would the world be as interesting?

I think that it's possible to keep local languages while having a "global" language which lets us communicate between various cultures... like a bridge.

:) I was PM'ing a load (/all) of people in the UK about AVIt and was going through the people and noticed that loads of people (95% +) registered but did not post and did not log-in and did not have email notification on.
That is what I really hated? :)

Ha ha ha I think we are all vjf addicts- it takes time to post, only the hardcores make time for vjf over their girlfriend/boyfriend/dog/cat/food/sleep etc. Also I think that people are slightly afraid of how :flamethro HOT it can get in here! Although the rest of us are in  and just can't get enough!
alllllll gooooood!

i think a lot of people also just register thinking this is something cool they would like to get into and then forget it...also people who only want to ask one question...
but if ur gonna lurk why bother registering??

Well I'm certainly a "quality not quantity" man - but I welcomed a break over Christmas with open arms - especially as its been a very busy year including 2 tours! Back to work next week for SoxaN at the Rhythm Factory. This year I'm also becoming more involved in scheduling VJs at my residency (Big Chill) which is a new venture for me!

i think most of the registed users that dont post just like to read..
i love messege bourds in general ,.. i can say im adicted to them
some times i forget this is a VJs forum and i talk like in the other forums ... free style
and if you played RPG messege bourds , it gets even more bizarre
where you travel and experience imagination
........
i love this forum becose it as humans that one way or the other have some things in comum with me ...
i dont come here just to take info and go .... or give info and go ,
poeple that use this just like a manual , are poeple that dont have righting skills ... or dont have feelings at all

And it's obvious who because their posts are all about silly, tired unimportant debates, just trying to start trouble and not interested in advancing VJ concepts or techniques at all.
This is a great community, but it is about VJing. Would be nice to have a breakthru in the New Year....

I dont think thats necessarily true at all Holly, but then I am biased as I dont really VJ much.
I would like to see more intertesting stuff too, but its not so much irrelevant posts that annoy me, as an absense of more interesting posts. Id love to see people discuss exactly what they do in more detail, from a technical point of view. Id love to see video of peoples rigs, guided tours etc, ideas for the future.
Personally Im limited cos I keep dreaming of what I want to do and it appears to be getting into territory where rediculously expensive realtime motion capturing, realtime 3d character animation & rendering, and virtual studio technology that I just cant afford. So I should be more realsitc, but I dont want to be.
Me not being an active VJ would be an issue if I ran around the forums telling people what to do when I have no idea myself, but I dont, I mostly stick to dreaming and any tech questions I feel confident enough in answering.

Good enough Elbows, but it's time you stopped saying you don't gig. Dreaming too big is no excuse not to get started.... You don't need a world tour to call yerself a VJ. If you was in NYC I'd be kickin yer butt to quit planning and start making it happen. I'd book you for EyeWash and tell everyone you were going to be the most fantastic debut on the bill!
Every journey begins with one step. Learn to crawl before you fly, etc.
You're too passionate and intelligent to let the opportunities of expression get overshadowed by technical issues. How many VJs here are using mo-cap and ridiculously expensive studios? Yeah, I do the bluescreen stuff and I'm wasting a lot of time in 3D right now (render to results ratio is low), but that's no excuse to not be kicking out some fun simpler ideas and keep the visuals flowing....

Holly,
If we ever get the chance to know each other....I think I would want you to speak at my funeral. You say some really sincere and warm things, to the people that you like.

thats exaclty what i bin trying to do for nearly two years ...
best results so far have been getting him to go 2 up with me on my rig for a bit :)
but as this was on stage in front of a coupla thousand people with Steve Hillage playing live, i guess thats not a bad debut :)

I am frequently very happy and greatful for the support and encouragement members of this community give me, its nice. There are many reasons why I havent gigged much, some of them are just excuses I suppose, but a few go deeper. There is something wrong with me socially to be honest, but I am trying. The rough plan so far for getting myself out of limbo is for me to work towards actually doing something at this years AVIT UK, whilst simultaneously trying to sort my brain out so I can function without expressing self-doubt at annoyingly frequent intervals ;)
I do feel good about this year, I dont know why, but if I can just get out of bed more then something will happen, I can feel it lol.

Elbows - Self doubt is, believe it or not, a good sign!! Nearly all the really great artists I know suffer from it in one form or another, and conversely, all the artists I know who are up their own arse are rubbish when all's said and done!

double that, go for it man, if you got the skillz then play with it. doubt is a waste of the weeks on this planet that you got.
about the lurking.. been busy with living lately : no time to drop the knowledge on this great forum!!!
in a nutshell , I'm losing my corporate fanbase/job :) and to tell you the truth I'm not going to miss it much.
the "other" project i'm working on is moving on slowly but surely and should finally see the light this year. thinking about going to the film academy here in holland if I can get in (sound/visual effects) either that or doing some social work in amsterdam.
turning 180 and I wonder where I'm going ... I 'll let vjforums know.
ps: ow many blessings and doubtless choices this year hope it all goes ok in 2004!!!!
