If you read the thread about Motion (http://vjforums.com/showthread.php?threadid=8041), you would find the list of supported cards and realize that the 9200 is not supported.

I'll paste the list here anyway:

ATI Radeon 9800 XT
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro
ATI Radeon 9700 Pro
ATI Radeon 9600 XT
ATI Radeon 9600 Pro
ATI Mobility Radeon 9700
ATI Mobility Radeon 9600
NVIDIA GeForce 6800 Ultra
NVIDIA GeForceFX Go 5200
NVIDIA GeForceFX 5200 Ultra

No PCI card is supported AFAIK.

Only Mirrored Drive Door G4 towers with a 4xAGP bus can be upgraded to run Motion and the two cards that work are the retail ATI9600Pro and the Retail 9800Pro.

No G4 slower than that, G3 or anything with a PCI bus video card will ever run Motion.

i read the list, but 9200 is the new card, it's just released, so there is a chance that it might be supported.... i would install it in mdd dual gigaherz g4.....

it is the only pci card for mac that has pixel shaders......

If its really new, then Apple may not have certified it yet. Apple sometimes takes their time at this process, BTW.

Err... it's said above that you need a card that goes in the 4X AGP BUS.

I don't understand you want to put a PCI videocard in a machine that has a 4xAGP slot? It won't work anyway.

Ok if you are just trying to save money look on ebay, there are people that buy PC version radeon 9600 128MB PRO cards and reflash them with the mac rom. Ther are quite cheap and will run Motion fine.

all current macs have agp AND pci slots. so it is possible to add a pci video card - up to the number of available pci slots.

i allready have second pci video card in this machine - ati 7000. it works just fine. i very often do multichannel video installations, so having multiple synchronised video outs is a must. i am thinking of getting the new 9200 pci card, which has 128mb video ram as opposed to 32mb of ati 7000.

i am aware of all previous posts, etc.... but was just wondering if motion would work with this configuration.

Yeah I know you can put PCI cards in an AGP machine but no it won't work with Motion. Motion needs to send texture data back and forth from Main memory to graphics card multiple times to render some effects and PCI just doesn't have enough bandwidth, that's why it's not supported.

All you have to do is buy a 9600 PRO AGP 4x, shove that in the AGP and then you can have your Radeon 7000 PCI as a second video card. Then you'll be able to run Motion.

Roger, can you tell me whether a 9600 taken out of the G5 will work in the G4, can't find any info on whether they're AGP 8x or 4x or in any way compatible...

klif: can you tell me what soft you use for your installations, I also have a 7000 lying around here and thought about upgrading to 9800, but dunno if it's worth keeping the 7000...

i'm using max, with various video libraries - jitter, softvns and ocassionaly nato.

you shouldn't do too much processing when doing simultaneous streams, if you want to keep high framerates.

7000 isn't orth much these days. i'd keep it. some people were using three 7000 in single machine....
