hi everybody!
i'm a bit desperate because of an installation i'm doing.
let me explain::
everything was goin just fine ,
i've built a patch on isadora (mac version) and used freeframe plugs (l?v them!), but then.. the sponsors gave me a Pc for the installation.. not a mac as requested..
no problem, isadora on Pc is allright.. but.. well it doesn?t support freeframe..
this is confusing.. it's the ONLY mac softW supporting freeframe, and then it doesn?t seem to support freeframe on pc?!
is there any trick, anything i can do to solve this?

hope ayone can help me out!
thanx!

hmm
izzy doesn't support freeframe on windows yet - in actual fact the only windows versions of izzy that exist are very beta and somewhat buggy - i would not recomend using it for any installation as it is not very stable or tested.

i really think that you need to insist on getting a mac for the installation - it is not fair of the sponsers to provide equipment that is not as you spec'd

i would tell them that you need a mac - all the development has been done on a mac and the software at the core of your project is only available for mac so ity is impossable to switch to a pc at the last moment.

tell them its like booking a sculpter on the basis that you'll provide him with a hammer and chisel and then at the last moment providing a paintbrush instead and expecting him to be able to do a nice carving.

genrally people don't understand these issues unless you explain it in such simple terms -

sleepytom,
sponsors suck..
i've talked to them yeah.. that's why i'm so desperate!

maybe i can do this in another softW..

but why it isnn?t supported?!? it envolves much coding?
is there a way to force the plugs? working them on free-chain?

uff...
:help:

Sorry but I have to agree with sleepytom, I know sponsors use to be shit, but here they would understand if you tell them your software -only- runs on Mac.

If they need the installation they will provide the goods.

Well, if you are stuck with the PC, the following softs support freeframe:

FlowMotion
VJamm
Resolume
VisualJockey
Elektronika

The program that is closest to Isadora is visualJockey. It can do what Isadora can do (Except for multiple output surfaces). I believe that Electronika can support multiple output surfaces, but I have not tested that in the field.

It really depends on your requirements. If you need multiple layers with custom easing behaviors and scheduled events, visualJockey is a great choice. It can load Quicktime content and utilize alpha information in movies, images, and Flash movies (Though the QT controller is sold separately).

If you really need multiple output screens, VJamm and a MIDI sequencer might be a good choice. VJamm has issues loading large files and is not too flexible, but it does A/V real good

I would agree and (grudgingly) admit I think VJo would be your PC solution

well it depends what you want to do - Vjo is somewhat simular to isadora in so far as its node based but it doesn't have all the features of izzy (nor does izzy have all the features of VJo)

with some more details of the technical requirements of the installation it will be possible to make some acurate recomendations but without that info i cannot really recomend any specific piece of technology.

the main requirements of any installation should be:-
1 reliability
2 ease of use for non technical venue staff

ideally the second requirement is taken care of by the first (ie a system should be capable of running for months at a time with no outside intervention) however this situation cannot be totaly relied upon as unseen errors can / will hapen (cleaner unplugs your computer to plug a hoover in etc etc)

any road up a reboot should be easy to perform, ideally without having to do anything more than flip a switch - the more you rely on venue staff to do things like logging on or running a program / selecting a preset then the higher the chances that your work will not be seen by the public or worse it will be seen by the public in a non functioning state.

This is so true that I will repeat it : the main requirements of an installation are reliability and ease of use :)
If you can afford it a remote monitoring and controlling system is very very useful and will save you a lot of time. There has been a power problem at the installation ? No problem, you connect to the internet from somewhere and restart the system from the comfort of your chair :)

Another very important point is maintenance (changing projector bulbs, cleaning the screens, etc.). Do not forget to include these costs in your budget or you'll soon hit a wall.

As for using visualJockey I would really recommend taking a look at it and most particularly at Murk's Quicktime player : this would give you the opportunity to bring the QT clips you have in your Isadora project directly into vJo (with sound control if you need it too).

thanx guys!

yep vjo seems like a good choice!
it's an installation using live feed so no problems with Qt!

*nevertheless, can u gimme a link on murks qt player for vjo?
i'm getting excited with this bcause i'm a bit seek of transcoding and rerendering clips from QT ->avi to use them in vjo!

havin some panic is (sometimes) good for your health(mental!)! eheheh!
i almost forgot about eyesweb and i'm gettin' back on it now! ((eyesweb 4 is in it's beta!!- tryin 2 get it!))
i've seem in freeframe page that it supports the plugs, does anyone know how to install freeframe plugs in it?
copy folder, paste folder?!

once again, thanx!;)

um , murk hasn't actually released his QT player publicaly yet, so better email him or PM him at the board. if you have any visualjockey questions, there are many here that can help you out, or if not post questions on http://forum.visualjockey.com

though you sponsors might be happier buying a mac rather than paying for visualjockey

i've just received an email from mark coniglio and it seems that last izzy release for pc supports freeframe! i'm gonna try it now!

if not.. sponsors pay for vjo or get a mac.. their money..they decide.. hehehehe!:D

(edit/D)

ok, i've just copied the plugs into isadora's plug-ins folder, got izzy running ! no problems!!
now lets see stability..

..i'm soo happy!!:jump2:
