The next AVIT North America full event will take place in the Spring of 2006 in beautiful VanCouver, Canada!
We have a great team heading up the organizational force on this one, with the original AVIT NA organizers on backup once again and Gordon and Madonna Blunt picking up the reins for this one. Check them out at www.bluntfaktory.com or email info@avit.us for more details. Stay tuned to this post for information as it develops.
Madonna is currently writing up grants and getting the ship on the water to see what kind of scale we are looking at for funding this time around. We have plenty of time for this one... so it should be the best yet!! How's that for putting on the pressure :P
I am taking a hiatus to go out to Burning Man ... so I will be back to work on this when I return :)
In the meantime maybe Madonna and Gordon can post some more details.

Yes , folks that's right, we are trying to put together an AVIT in Vancouver for early in the spring of 2006 , provided all goes as planed . Vancouver is a new city less than 100 years old, but growing at an amazing rate, making it a perfect spot for this event. Not to worry about the weather, as it wont be cold at all, although if you like snow, the mountains are a only a 15min drive and you can be skiing or snow boarding in no-time , day or night. Madonna and i are looking into many cool venues around the city, that would be central to down town and only a walk away from each other making getting around the event a snap. Although we are still in the first steps of planing and 2006 is quite aways off, I would like to invite all who are interested to start making plans to attend. It would be very cool to show case our collective craft, raising the awareness and profile of what is out there. So think about it, with your participation maybe we really could make the best AVIT to date, and that would be saying something as the standard has be set high. We'll keep you up to speed as info comes together. G:up:

a fresh up date on Vancouver for possible venues . At Subeez cafe here in town i have set up a quick rig four screen four projector system. the venue has 20' ceiling and lots of room as well as being right in the center on down town . soon i will post pictures of the screens which are 9' by 12' or 3m by 4m and the cafe to wet your appetites . we could run big sound in there to add to the show and easily section off four VJ stations to protect the gear but make it easy for people to get good accesses to see you work your magic . also i spoke with Malcom from the "New Forms Festival " who, along with the lads down at Bentmatter ( also Vancouver ) run one of the coolest new spaces in town that is practically custom made for an AVIT event . i know there's a long way to go but things here in Vancouver as brewing away nicely as the possibility becomes more of a reality .

It looks like at this point that AVIT Van Couver is not going to happen as soon as planned. There are some things needing to be worked out to be registered properly for funding that I haven't had adequete time to focus on. I apologize as this is largely my undoing.
As far as I understand Madonna and Gordon are still interested in doing the event, we will just need more time and more realistically are looking at 2007... this isn't set in stone, but is instead a speculation. I will keep the forums up to date.
I do have an inkling that we may do a small event in New York and will be putting out my feelers for anyone interested.
Thanks.

I'm still stymied by job hunting at the moment...
Which is why I still haven't jumped in on the AVIT Retreat, yet.
Love to be able to say yes, but priorities like... rent are an issue.
If I can't get my sh#t together for the May event, then there are other options to tie in with later in the summer.
Again, sorry to be noncommital, but I've applied for several potential jobs, none of which seem to be in a big hurry to hire anyone. Frustrating.

hey if you guys are serious about doing an event in NYC i can most likely hook up a club spot (in Brooklyn about 30 sec from Manhattan right next to the tunnel) )and while the club has no video system i personally have about 8 projectors 2 video mixers ect.. other than that the spot is cool it was opened by hippies so if one wanted to smoke something all they would need to do is go in the back yard
i just don't have the time to organizer or promote an event but im down to help and lend some gear including a full on laser system

I'm thinking Mini AVIT NY
I'm glad to see people stepping up. I am going to be getting in touch with some players in the city and there are some significant things that could make this worthwhile.
I'm thinking daytime gallery event with a club night. Keep it simple and small.
thanks for the input so far and we'll keep looking into it.

With summer rapidly approaching, we need to get something firmly decided on this.
It is good seeing a few NYC VJ stepping up, but if this is to be a proper full on AVit, we need to get the funding/venues/outline of events going.
Holly,
seems like you have the east coast connects to pull this off. Are you interested in getting involved?
The other option if a full scale AVit doesn't materialize has been the AVit retreat in the northwest that seems to be bogged down in firm commitments.
As last resort, we could still aways throw another retreat in colorado(tho I think a few on the regulars might be getting tired of doing it in colorado and would like to perform someplace new..
Anyhow this get something moving on this if we are going to do it, as it might be the last AVit under that name, so we should do it up with a bang!!!:poke:

I'm 90% that it isn't going to happen.
1) The festival I was going to tie in with isn't apparently going to happen.
2) I'm still tapped on funds.
That said, I've been working at a multimedia arts center a fair amount, and am hoping that at some point in the farther off future this may lead to an event at that facility.

well, if we do it again in colo, i'll definately build it around a bigger event!
also It would be awesome if we can get more A/V involved this year.
With the sucess of last years event, we should be able to get some funding/sponsership as well:up:

I'm working on putting somthing together for Phoenix, Az. Perhaps a mini AVIT. Can anyone help me with info on how to go about getting sponsorships and any other funding that may be available. I have the resources, the location, the talent (which includes many of you who are nearby) my only issue is the funding (isnt it always though?). Well any help is appreciated. I have no experience with event production but I'm determined to make this happen. Our scene could use somthing like this, both educational and a talent showcase.

Mini AVits are hard to get much funding for.The best way of raising some funds, is looking for local funding thru sponsership of some of the Phoenix area A/V shops. Even if it is just there logo's on the flyers and program.
Edirol might get involved if it has the education/demostration part setup into the event(usually during the day).
Other than that a good patron here or there doesn't hurt:love:

Thanks for the info! I think I was wishing for too much. Better to just keep it simple. Mainly the local VJ's and a few others in the nearby states who would be willing to come down and contribute (Pixy? Wordvirus23? I/O? SketchyJ?) There are a couple art schools here that I can probably get one of them to sponsor the show as well as London West records as mentioned by joeproper. I'm sure theres more out there...I'll start inquiring. I just want to be able to make this event a reality, give visuals a boost in our scene, and still be able to pay the talent and come out at least even. I'm not in this for any type of profit...its the loss im worried about.

With the interest in syntax doing something and the retreat - perhaps we can put together a "package" for sponsors. Lets consider some realistic event time frames and see... Syntax-what are you thinking?
Pixy says August for the retreat. New York is still a good idea. I've been waiting to touch base with Grant and his timetable on all of this.
Any ideas people?

Just a heads up: we're working on an AV/VJ theme camp for BM this year. Thinking performances Wed-Sat nights. Already mentioned to Pixy a few days ago about the idea of an AVit night.
WMC is this week, so everyone's tied up. We'll be looking more seriously into a plan starting next week...

Protohippy and I do shows at a location in Dallas, Tx pretty often. They'd flip to host an event like this. The venue is a legal afterhours with multiple rooms indoor and outdoor with space for around 14 screens all together. There's also the possibility to spread it out over two nights there... Come to Texas :devilwink

To be honest, with no real arrangements for sponsership, and no concrete plans as of this date, it is looking a bit bleek for a summer AVit or retreat.
That said, I was talking with Mason Dixon this last weekend at the Sacred Earth event I was at in Wisconsin, and he was saying he could get funding and a large venue (he has previously curated the Chicago Motion Graphic Fest) in Chicago in Jan. 07.
That would give us enuf time to really do a full on AVit with appropriate funding for travel and lodging, and would be centrally located again for the most VJ's to attend.

We have a venue on lock out in Dallas Texas. It is pretty much a midway point for a all of the USA. We are in talks with sponsors to try and get some workshops and product demos going. We have the venue for 2 days and would be able to host a total of 24 screens per night!! This would be tagged along with a DJ event going on that night. We would love to have everyone come out here and can find group rates on hotels and such as well. We are somewhat experienced in event productions, but would still need all the help that we can get. We will have a specific date here at the end of this week and will update then. If you have any suggestions/questions I will do my best to answer/respond, please mail them to djprotohippy@gmail.com or you can aim me at : myndkillaz or dirtysouthravers Thanks in advance.

:sun: :sun: :sun: Mid - late september is sorta the height of summer. It's Ass Hot here in SanAntonio (a bit south of Dallas) right now. Good news is the venue is currently adding more A/C units and plans to be finished way in advance of our dates. We play at this venue pretty much monthly for the past year and a half or so. Can get hot with a big crowd, but that only makes the crowd get naked (JK, but close too it) never a bad thing!!! For real the outdoor areas get a nice breeze at night, really not too bad. And not much point being outside in the sun during the daytime activities, such as product demos and meet and greet type stuff...:pirate:

My partner is in contact with her through myspace right now. And we have a group going on there as well. We are working on getting a group rate for a hotel in the area, and can offer transport from the hotel to the venue. Right now we are doing what we can for sponsors to help offset some costs for the vjs traveling out to Dallas to be a part of the event. If anyone has any suggestions, or contacts to send promo materials to, please feel free to contact me (djprotohippy@gmail.com or myndkillaz on AIM, www.myspace.com/dvjprotohippy) As I would love to be able to help everyone come out and make this a huge event!!
